È stato portato all’attenzione dell’IRPWA che i POW repubblicani situati in Roe 4 (il Braccio numero 4) nella prigione di Maghaberry sono tenuti rinchiusi nelle celle per 24 ore al giorno sin da sabato 7 aprile.
Sembra che il regime settario che gestisce la prigione di Maghaberry stia adottando questo metodo come misura punitiva. Infatti i prigionieri repubblicani stanno indossando gli Easter lilies (i gigli pasquali, simbolo repubblicano ideato negli anni ’20 del secolo scorso), in ricordo della Rivolta di Pasqua del 1916.
I lilies saranno indossati dai POW fino alle 12 di mercoledì 11 aprile.
Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association condanna questo comportamento punitivo posto in essere da un regime obsoleto che dimostra, se ancora fosse necessario, che la parità di trattamento non esiste né nelle carceri britanniche né nello staterello britannico ed il ricordo dei patrioti irlandesi morti non sarà mai tollerato.

Roe 4 POWs on 24 hour lockup since Easter Saturday
It has been brought to the attention of the IRPWA that POWs on Roe 4 in Maghaberry have been placed on 24 hour lock up since Saturday 7th April.
It appears that the sectarian regime in control within Maghaberry gaol are adopting this as a punitive measure in response to the wearing of Easter lilies by the POWs.
Lilies will be worn by the POWs until 12am on the 11th April.
The IRPWA condemn the defacto punishment adopted by this outdated regime which proves, if proof were necessary, that parity of esteem is non existent in either the British gaol or the British statelet and the remembrance of Irish patriot dead will not be tolerated by either.
