L’Irish Republican Socialist Party ha respinto le speculazioni secondo cui l’INLA sarebbe responsabile per un attacco in cui due fratelli sono stati gambizzati giovedì scorso nella zona di Ballymagroarty.
I due uomini, di 25 e 26 anni, sono stati feriti con colpi di arma da fuoco poco dopo le 22 di giovedì e trasportati all’Altnagelvin Hospital per ricevere le cure mediche.
Dopo il ferimento, il parlamentare per Foyle dello Sinn Fein Raymond McCartney ha detto che elementi collegati all’Irish National Liberation Army sono responsabili per l’attacco.
Ha chiesto ai rappresentanti politrici dell’INLA – che in precedenza aveva annunciato la fine della campagna armata – di chiarire la situazione.
Venerdì mattina un portavoce dell’IRSP di Derry ha affermato che l’INLA non è più coinvolta in “azioni armate”.
“Dopo la sparatoria della scorsa sera a Ballymagroarty a Derry, l’IRSP desidera mettere in chiaro una cosa. Non ci sono indicazioni di chi siano i responsabili dell’attacco e fino ad allora non posso commentare le singole circostanze.
“In risposta alle accuse da parte di un membro dello Sinn Fein secondo cui persone vicine all’INLA sono state coinvolte nella sparatoria, noi facciamo riferimento alle dichiarazioni rilasciate dall’INLA negli ultimi tempi in cui hanno detto di essersi disarmati e di non essere più coinvolti in azioni armate”, ha detto il portavoce.
Condannando l’incidente, McCartney ha affermato che ciò che era iniziato come una rissa di strada era finito con un attacco armato contro i due fratelli.
“Questa sparatoria in Ballymagroarty deve essere condannata. Non ci può essere alcuna giustificazione per questo tipo di azione. Qualunque organizzazione ha portato avanti tutto questo, ha bisogno di farsi avanti e dare una chiara spiegazione delle proprie azioni.
“Siamo in una nuova era, stiamo creando una nuova società per le giovani generazioni e non ci può essere posto per questo tipo di attività”, ha detto.
Una donna di Ballymagroarty che ha aiutato i due fratelli dopo il ferimento ha descritto l’incidente come “orribile”.
“Erano molto sconvolti, piangevano e urlavano. Inoltre è stata una notte molto fredda quindi potete immaginare lo shock provocato dal freddo. È stato orribile da vedere”, ha affermato.

The IRSP in Derry have dismissed speculation that the INLA was responsible for a gun attack in which two brothers were shot in the legs in Ballymagroarty on Thursday night.
The two men, aged 25 and 26, were shot shortly after 8pm on Thursday and were taken to Altnagelvin hospital for treatment for their injuries.
Following the shooting, Foyle Sinn Fein MLA Raymond McCartney said he believed elements linked to the INLA were responsible for the attack.
He challenged the political representatives of the INLA – which had previously announced an end to its armed campaign – to clarify the situation.
On Friday morning a spokesperson for the IRSP in Derry said the INLA are no longer involved in “armed actions”.
“Following last night’s shooting in Ballymagroarty in Derry the IRSP wish to put the following on record. There is no indication as to who was responsible for the shooting and until there is we cannot comment on the individual circumstances.
“In response to allegations by a member of Sinn Fein that people close to the INLA were involved in the shooting, we refer back to statements from INLA in recent times in which they have said that they have disarmed and are no longer involved in armed actions,” the spokesperson said.
Condemning the incident, Mr McCartney claimed that what had started as a recent street fight had resulted in a gun attack on the two brothers.
“This shooting in Ballymagroarty has to be condemned. There can be absolutely no justification for this type of action. Whatever organisation carried out this out, needs to come forward and give a clear explanation for their actions.
“We are in a new era, we are creating a new society for the younger generation and there can be no place for this type of activity,” he said.
A woman from Ballymagroarty who aided the men after the shooting described the incident as “horrific.”
“They were very distraught, crying, and screaming. Plus it was a very cold night so you can imagine the shock they were in with the cold. It was horrific to see,” she said.
