Il falco unionista afferma che il coinvolgimento 30 poliziotti provenienti da altre parti del Regno Unito per i World Police and Fire Games si fa beffe della decisione di eliminare la Riserva a Tempo Pieno
Martedì il vice comandante della polizia Alistair Finlay ha annunciato che 30 conduttori di cani provenienti da altre forze di polizia del Regno Unito giungeranno in aiuto durante l’evento del mese prossimo.
La polizia ha detto che gli agenti supplementari sono necessari per far fronte alla minaccia rappresentata da repubblicani.
Ma per il leader del TUV Jim Allister l’impiego di agenti supplementari a poco tempo dai disordini del 12 luglio e dal vertice del G8 dimostra che la PSNI non dispone di risorse sufficienti per gestire eventi su larga scala.
“Mentre sono solidale con l’utilizzo di agenti di polizia con esperienza da altre forze britanniche, la dipendenza della PSNI durante il G8, le parate del 12 luglio e ora i GIochi Mondiali della Polizia e dei Pomoieri solleva seri interrogativi sulla capacità operativa della PSNI”, ha detto Allister.
L’unionista contrario all’Accordo si è scagliato contro il DUP per non aver mantenuto l’impegno di garantire il mantenimento della Riserva a Tempo Pieno.
“La ridotta capacità della PSNI può essere fatta risalire alla disastrosa implementazione del Rapporto Pattern e all’abolizione della Riserva a Tempo Pieno. Jeffrey Donaldson una volte sosteneva che il mantenimento della Riserva a Tempo Pieno era una pre-condizione per la devoluzione dei poteri di polizia e giustizia «oerché non solo il DUP non l’approverà, ma la fiducia della popolazione non permettera che accada, questo è assolutamente chiaro».
“Nelle sue parole si trattava categoricamente di una scelta determnante. Ma come tante scelte determinanti, l’impegno di mantenere la Riserva a Tempo Pieno è stato rapidamente abbandonato dal DUP mentre si prostravano per soddisfare le esigenze dello Sinn Fein.
“La realtà è questa: l’Irlanda del Nord è ancora sotto il grave rischio di un attacco terroristico e la Riserva a Tempo Pieno era essenziale nell’integrare le fila della PSNI quando erano sotto sforzo.
“TUV è stato coerente nel suo sostegno per il mantenimento della Riserva a Tempo Pieno. È vergnognoso che il sostegno di un altro partito unionista è scomparso quando è diventato un espediente politico farlo”.

Allister questions use of more outside police officers for next big event
The involvement of around 30 extra police from other parts of the UK for the World Police and Fire Games here makes a mockery of the decision to abolish the Full-Time Reserves, an MLA has claimed.
Assistant Chief Constable Alistair Finlay announced on Tuesday that 30 dog handlers from other UK police forces will be flown in to help with security at the event next month.
Police said the extra police are necessary to deal with the threat posed by dissident republicans.
But TUV leader Jim Allister said the news that extra police are to be used again, so soon after the Twelfth riots and the G8 Summit shows the PSNI does not have sufficient resources for such large-scale events.
“While I am supportive of utilising experienced police officers from other UK forces, the PSNI reliance during the G8, 12th July Parades and now the World Police and Fire Games raises serious questions about PSNI operational capability,” said Mr Allister.
The anti-Agreement Unionist hit out at the DUP for, as he said, not maintaining their pledge to ensure the Full Time Reserve police force was kept in place.
“The reduced capability of the PSNI can be traced back to the disastrous implementation of the Patten Report and the abolition of the Full Time Reserve. Jeffrey Donaldson once claimed the retention of the Full Time Reserve was a pre-condition for the devolution of Policing and Justice ‘because not only will the DUP not agree to it but the public confidence will not be there to make it happen. That is absolutely clear’.
“In his words it categorically was a ‘deal-breaker’. But like so many other ‘deal-breakers’ the pledge to retain the FTR was quickly abandoned by the DUP as they fell over themselves to accommodate the demands of Sinn Fein.
“The reality is this – Northern Ireland is still at severe risk of terrorist attack and the Full Time Reserve was essential in supplementing the PSNI ranks at times when they were under strain.
“TUV was consistent in its support for the retention of the Full Time Reserve, it is a great shame that another Unionist party’s support disappeared when it became politically expedient to do so.”
