John Kyle resta leader ad interim del Progressive Unionist Party

Il consigliere di Belfast, John Kyle, ha acconsentito a restare il leader ad interim del PUP fino alla conferenza annuale di ottobre

All’incontro di mercoledì, tenuto a East Belfast, hanno partecipato circa 70 membri del partito. Kyle ha detto che serveun periodo di riflessione.

La riunione giunge dopo le dimissioni della leader Dawn Purvis, in protesta con l’omicidio di Bobby Moffett avvenuto in Shankill Road il 28 maggio.

L’assassinio è riconducibile a membri della UVF, di cui il Progressive Unionist Party è la rappresentanza politica.

Purvis ha lasciato la guida perché il PUP “era severamente limitato a causa della sua relazione con la UVF”.

Altri membri del PUP, compreso l’ex numero due e membro del Policing Board David Rose, si sono detti fortemente preoccupati dalle attività dell’UVF.

La polizia ha confermato che gli autori dell’omicidio di Moffett erano membri della UVF e stanno verificando l’eventuale benestare all’omicidio da parte della dirigenza dell’organizzazione.

Mercoledì sera, Kyle ha affermato: “Continueremo a perseguire quello che vediamo come il nostro ruolo nella trasformazione del conflitto.

“Ci consulteremo con i nostri associati e porteremo avanti il progetto destinato alla trasformazione del conflitto e a portare adeguatamente le nostre comunità fuori dal conflitto, durato oltre 40 anni”.

Kyle to continue as PUP leader

Belfast councillor, Dr John Kyle, has agreed to remain interim leader of the Progessive Unionist Party until its annual conference in October.

At a meeting of around 70 members of the party in east Belfast on Wednesday, Dr Kyle said there would be a period of reflection.

It followed last week’s resignation of party leader Dawn Purvis in protest at the murder of Bobby Moffett on the Shankill Road on 28 May.

The murder was blamed on UVF members.

Ms Purvis said she left because the PUP was “severely restricted because of its relationship with the UVF”.

Others within the PUP, including former deputy leader and policing board member David Rose, are also known to have serious concerns about the activities of the UVF.

The police have confirmed they believe UVF members murdered Mr Moffett and are also investigating the possibility that the killing was authorised by the organisation’s leadership.

On Wednesday night, Dr Kyle said: “We will continue to fulfil what we see as our role in conflict transformation.

“We will consult with our associates and we will take forward the project aimed at conflict transformation and bring our communities properly out of the conflict that they’ve been in for the past 40 years.”
