La famiglia di Pat Finucane incontra il Segretario di Stato

La famiglia dell’avvocato nordirlandese per i diritti umani, Pat Finucane, assassinato da un commando lealista nel 1989, è stata invitata ad incontrare il governo per discutere sulla possibilità di un’indagine.

Il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord Owen Paterson ha detto di aver scritto ai parenti di Finucane, in modo da poter ascoltare le loro opinioni sul suo omicidio.

All’avvocato trentanovenne, padre di tre bambini, spararono ripetutamente davanti alla sua famiglia all’ora di cena nella loro casa a nord di Belfast, il 12 febbraio 1989.

I clienti di Pat Finucane comprendevano repubblicani di alto profilo e iniziò a ricevere minacce dopo aver rappresentato con successo alcuni sospetti IRA.

Durante il question time alla House of Commons, il laburista Meg Hillier ha chiesto se la coalizione governativa intende procedere ad una inchiesta.

Paterson ha detto che vi era stato uno “scambio di lungo corso” tra il governo laburista e la famiglia di Pat Finucane proprio su questo tema . “Prima di decidere come affrontare la questione, vorrei conoscere i pareri della famiglia Finucane”, ha affermato.

Secretary of State to meet Pat Finucane family

The family of Northern Ireland solicitor, Pat Finucane, who was shot dead by loyalists in 1989 has been invited to meet the Government to discuss the possibility of an inquiry, MPs have been told.

Northern Ireland Secretary Owen Paterson said he had written to relatives of Mr Finucane so he could hear their views on his murder.

The 39-year-old father-of-three was repeatedly shot in front of his family at their north Belfast home on February 12, 1989.

Mr Finucane’s clients included high-profile republicans and he began to receive threats after successfully representing IRA suspects.

During Commons question time, Labour’s Meg Hillier asked whether the coalition Government intended to carry out an inquiry.

Mr Paterson said there had been a “long-running exchange” between the Labour Government and Mr Finucane’s family on the issue. “Before I decide how I propose to approach this question, I want to get the views of the Finucane family for myself,” he said.
