PSNI top job candidate pulls out
One of the five candidates shortlisted to succeed Sir Hugh Orde as PSNI chief constable has withdrawn his application.
Bernard Hogan-Howe, who in is charge of the Merseyside police, is understood to be taking on a role at Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary instead.
The four other candidates, who are in Northern Ireland on Tuesday, are to be interviewed next week.
The post attracts an annual salary of £183,954.
The interviewing panel is to consist of Policing Board chairman Barry Gilligan, vice-chairman Brian Rea and MLAs Alex Maskey, Dolores Kelly, Ian Paisley Jr and Leslie Cree.
The final appointment will have to be approved by the Secretary of State Shaun Woodward.
