Kirk McCambley ha detto di voler ripulire il proprio nome riguardo alle accuse riguardanti la sua impresa, il ristorante-caffè Lock Keeper’s Inn.
“Voglio mettere in chiaro che i soldi ricevuti sono stati un prestito informale da parte di Iris. Non c’erano contratti scritti o cose del genere.
“Tutto ciò che pensavo era di aprire il locale e farlo andare avanti. Da dove provenivano i soldi non mi era mai passato dalla testa. Il Consiglio mi ha aiutato per i primi due mesi dall’apertura ma questa è una pratica comune per qualsiasi nuova impresa.
“Mi hanno pagato qualcos’altro ma tutto il resto proveniva dalle mie tasche”. Kirk ha ammesso di essere stato interrogato dalla polizia sulle disposizioni finanziare che lo hanno portato a ricevere 50.000 sterline da due imprenditori ma insiste di non aver fatto nulla di male.
Ha respinto le voci secondo le quali non sarebbe qualificato per gestire il Lock Keeper’s Inn.
Ha detto: “Sono stato interrogato dalla polizia ma la cosa finale è che non ho fatto nulla di sbagliato e non ho infranto regole, tutto è sul tavolo. Non sono in alcun guaio.
“Odio il modo in cui la gente pensa che ho avuto il locale per merito di Iris – sono più che qualificato per gestire il locale. Ho lavorato nella macelleria di mio padre per anni e quando avevo 16 anni l’ho praticamente gestita da solo. Essere in affari è tutto ciò che so fin da quando ero piccolo”.
Kirk è sconvolto dalla pubblicità della sua relazione con Iris e ha rivelato di essere volato a Londra recentemente per fuggire. E’ ancora con la sua ragazza diciottenne Rebecca McGrath e insiste che sono pazzi d’amore.
“Rebecca ed io siamo ancora insieme e siamo molto felici. Sono molto innamorato. Sono state scritte molte schifezze si di me e avrei potuto avviare azioni legali, ma non l’ho fatto, perché voglio essere lasciato solo con la mia vita. Ciò che è accaduto è il passato”.

Police quiz McCambley over financial dealings
Kirk McCambley said he wanted to clear his name in regards the accusations surrounding his business, the Lock Keeper’s Inn cafe.
“I want to make it clear that the money I was given was an informal loan from Iris. There were no written contracts or anything like that.
“All I was thinking about was getting the business up and running. Where the money came from never entered my head. The council gave me the cafe for the first couple of months after I opened but this is standard practice for any new business.
“They paid for a few other things but everything else came from my own pocket.” Kirk admitted that he had been questioned by police about the financial arrangements which led to him receiving £50,000 from the two developers arranged by Iris but he insists he did nothing wrong.
He also hit out at reports that he was not qualified to run the Lock Keeper’s Inn.
He said: “I’ve been questioned by police but the bottom line is I’ve done nothing wrong and broken no rules, everything is above board. I am in no trouble at all.
“I hate the way people think the only reason I got the lease was because of Iris — I am more than qualified to run the business. I worked in my dad’s butcher shop for years and when I was 16 I was practically running the place myself. Being in business is all I have known since I was little.”
Kirk also said he was shocked by the publicity surrounding his affair with Iris and revealed he recently fled to London to escape it. He is also still with his 18-year-old girlfriend Rebecca McGrath and insists they are madly in love.
He said: “Rebecca and I are still together and very happy. I am very much in love. There has been a load of crap written about me and I could have taken legal action, but I didn’t, because I just want to be left alone to get on with my life. What happened is in the past.”
