La polizia reagisce alla minaccia ‘dissidente’

PSNI react to dissident threat

A FERMANAGH PSNI station is to heighten security measures in light of a renewed dissident threat.

psni officerIt was revealed on Thursday that security fencing at the police facility in Lisnaskea is to be raised to protect PSNI personnel.

The initiative goes against normalisation procedures which has seen many security provisions lessened at police stations across the Province.

Planning permission has been submitted to increase the security fencing at the Fermanagh base by 2.5 metres.

Chief Superintendent Michael Skuce, the senior police officer in Fermanagh, says police in the county are committed to moving towards a “normalised policing service” but must take “cogniscance” of the current security situation.

Last August, three police officers cheated death when a homemade rocket failed to detonate as it was aimed at their foot patrol on the town’s main street.

Earlier this year, dissident republicans claimed they had fired shots at the police station itself although their actions proved to be unfounded.

Police in the border county removed a suspicious object left near the border town of Roslea earlier this week.
