La Union Jack blocca ancora il consiglio comunale di Limavady

Un’altra seduta del consiglio di Limavady è stata sospesa per una nuova discussione sull’Union Jack

L’incontro di martedì sera è stato sospeso quando il consigliere del TUV, Boyd Douglas, ha mostrato il logo del partito contenente la Union Jack all’interno dell’aula del consiglio.

Già altre sedute sono state sospese dopo che lo stesso consigliere aveva sventolato una bandiera durante i lavori consiliari.

Secondo la linea politica del consiglio non si possono mostrare bandiere in aula.

Il consigliere Douglas ha affermato di non aver fatto nulla di illegale.

“Le cose sono andate di male in peggio perché il sindaco non sembra in grado di tenere sotto controllo la seduta”, ha riferito.

“Avevo detto che non avrei più sventolato la bandiera, ma posso usare il logo del mio partito”.

Tuttavia Sean McGlinchey, sindaco dello Sinn Fein, ha accusato il consigliere Douglas di aver causato i disagi.

“Il consigliere Douglas ha messo in chiaro che si è trattato di un attacco contro la mia persona ed il mio partito”, ha detto.

Limavady council meeting suspended in flag row

Another meeting of Limavady Borough Council has been disrupted in an ongoing row over the Union Flag.

Tuesday night’s meeting was suspended when TUV Councillor Boyd Douglas displayed a party logo containing the flag inside the council chamber.

Meetings have already been called off a number of times after the same councillor unfurled the Union Flag during council business.

The council policy is that no flags should be shown within the chamber.

Councillor Douglas claimed there was nothing unlawful in what he had done.

“Things went from bad to worse because the mayor didn’t seem to be capable of dealing with the meeting,” he said.

“I have actually said that I wouldn’t use the flag again, but I would use my logo of my party.”

However, the Sinn Fein Mayor Sean McGlinchey blamed Councillor Douglas for causing the disruption.

“Councillor Douglas made it very clear that it was an attack on me personally and my party,” he said.
