Un’azione legale è stata lanciata dopo la conquista del seggio di Fermanagh & South Tyrone per soli 4 voti
Il candidato unionista condiviso, Rodney Connor, ha chiesto al Belfast Election Court (Tribunale Elettorale di Belfast) di effettuare un approfondimento dopo la sconfitta di misura.
Una portavoce dell’ufficio del giudice afferma: “Abbiamo ricevuto una domanda presentata da Rodney Connor”.
Il terzo riconteggio nella grande area rurale vicino al confine con la Repubblica d’Irlanda iniziò alle 11 del mattino il giorno seguente alla tornata elettorale, dopo che la corsa tra i due candidati era stata dichiarata troppo ravvicinata per prendere una decisione.
Dopo il primo conteggio, solo otto voti separavano il candidato indipendente unionista e la candidata dello Sinn Fein, portando ad un riconteggio svolto alle 3 del mattino.
Dopo tre conteggi, il primo dava alla Gildernew un vantaggio di 10 voti, poi 2 ed infine i definitivi 4, il seggio è stato assegnato allo Sinn Fein.
Il seggio di Fermanagh & South Tyrone fu conquistato nel 1981 da Bobby Sands, mentre stava facendo lo sciopero della fame che lo portò alla morte.
Da allora, continuò a cambiare di mano tra unionisti e nazionalisti, fino a quando la Gildernew lo conquistò nel 2001.
Fu eletta per soli 53 voti, dopo azioni legali avviate in seguito alle denunce di ritardata apertura dei seggi elettorali.
Il più piccolo distacco mai registrato fu a Exeter nel 1910, quando solo un voto decise il vincitore.
Ci fu anche un pareggio per il seggio di Ashton under Lyne nel 1886.

Fermanagh election result challenge launched
A judicial challenge has been launched after Sinn Fein took the Fermanagh/South Tyrone Westminster seat by four votes, a courts spokeswoman has confirmed.
Unionist unity candidate Rodney Connor asked for the Belfast Election Court review after this month’s narrow defeat.
A spokeswoman for the Lord Chief Justice’s Office said: “We have had an application lodged by Rodney Conner.”
The third recount in the largely rural area near the border with the Irish Republic started at 11am the following day after the overnight race between the two candidates was judged too close to call.
After the first count, only eight votes separated the independent unionist candidate and the Sinn Fein minister, sparking a re-count at 3am.
After three recounts, the first giving Mrs Gildernew the edge by 10 votes, then two and finally four, the tightest of contests was declared for Sinn Fein.
The Fermanagh and South Tyrone seat was won by IRA prisoner Bobby Sands in 1981 when he was on hunger strike.
Since then, it changed hands between nationalism and unionism until Ms Gildernew won in 2001.
She was elected by just 53 votes, resulting in legal challenges after complaints about polling stations staying open too late.
The smallest majority ever recorded by a candidate was in Exeter in 1910 when one vote decided the winner.
There was also a tie for the seat in Ashton under Lyne in 1886.
