La polizia è stata attaccata mentre interveniva in seguito alle denunce che parlavano di adolescenti intenti a danneggiare e lanciare pietre contro le autovetture a East Belfast.
I disordini sono iniziati nel pomeriggio di lunedì nella zona di Stewart Street.
Almeno due automobili sono state date alle fiamme, mentre sono stati infranti i finestrini di altre vetture al cui interno poi è stata lanciata della vernice.
Afferma la polizia: “Ci sono stati lanci di pietre, danni alle vetture parcheggiate e lancio di alcune bottiglie molotov.
“I residenti di Markets non vogliono questo genere di cose sull’uscio di casa e chiediamo a chiunque sia coinvolto in questo tipo di violenza e danneggiamento di fermarsi”.

La violenza è esplosa dopo che i lavoratori comunali hanno rimosso il materiale accatastato che doveva servire per il bonfire per l’anniversario dell’introduzione dell’internamento.
In un comunicato il Belfast City Council ha detto che nessuna vettura è stata danneggiata durante le operazioni di rimozione del materiale.
Deirdre Hargey, consigliere dello Sinn Féin per l’area, ha detto che “non è possibile difendere in alcun modo questo comportamento e va fermato”.
Ha aggiunto: “Il danneggiamento delle vettura in Stewart Street è inaccettabile e condanno i responsabili nella maniera più dura possibile.
“Sono stati danneggiati sia i pendolari che i residenti” ha proseguito la donna.
“Le auto sono state colpite con le pietre ed alcune sono state date alle fiamme. È semplice vandalismo insensato.
“Chiedo a tutti i genitori di prendersi la responsabilità dei propri figli e di sapere sempre dove si trovano.
“La comunità non vuole questo genere di comportamento e non è rappresentativo di chi abita in questa zona.
“La comunità, giovani e adulti insieme, è stata coinvolta in una positiva festa negli ultimi giorni e i responsabili di questi danneggiamenti gettano cattiva luce sulla buona reputazione di questa comunità”.

Petrol bombs thrown during disorder in Markets
Police have come under attack while attending reports of young people throwing stones and damaging cars in east Belfast.
The trouble began in the Stewart Street area on Monday afternoon.
At least two cars were burned out, while the windows of other cars were smashed with paint also thrown at them.
Police said: “There has been some stone–throwing, damage to parked cars and a number of petrol bombs have also been thrown.
“Local residents of the Markets do not want this kind of activity on their doorsteps and we would urge those engaged in violence and criminal damage to stop – and go home.”

The trouble began after bonfire material, which was stacked ready to mark the anniversary of internment, was removed by council workers.
In a statement, Belfast City Council said no cars were damaged during the council operation to remove the bonfire material.
Sinn Féin councillor for the area Deirdre Hargey said “there is no defending this behaviour at all and it needs to stop now”.
She added: “The damage to cars in Stewart Street is unacceptable and I condemn those responsible in the strongest possible way.
“Both commuters and residents have been affected.
“Cars have been smashed with stones and several have been set alight. It is nothing short of mindless vandalism.
“I’m asking all parents to take responsibility for their children and know where they are at all times.
“The community does not want this type of behaviour and it’s not representative of the people of this area.
“The community, both young and old, have been involved in a positive community festival over the last few days and those involved in this negative behaviour damage the good reputation of this community.”
