Le reazioni seguite all’annuncio di Peter Robinson, il quale ha deciso di lasciare il posto di Primo ministro per sei settimane, dopo le rivelazioni sugli affari personali e finanziari della moglie Iris

Arlene Foster, nuovo primo ministro

Tutti i nostri rappresentanti eletti hanno chiaramente deciso di voler Peter Robinson come leader nel futuro.

Il messaggio di oggi, da parte del DUP, è che sceglieremo il nostro leader. Abbiamo scelto il nostro leader e stiamo dicendo chiaramente a lui, a tutti i partiti politici ed ai mezzi di informazione: “Questo è l’uomo che vogliamo guidi l’unionismo”.

Il DUP si è seduto ed ha usato la testa. Non è stato indirizzato o preso dal panico e condotto ad una determinata decisione.

Ha deciso di agire per quelli che ritiene i suoi migliori interessi, sostenendo un leader che ha mostrato chiaramente di non aver fatto nulla di sbagliato e, secondo noi, sarà scagionato.

Peter Robinson ha diritto di prendere tempo ai suoi impegni per sistemare i suoi fatti personali.

Comunque è crucialmente importante che le questioni politiche siano risolte e risolte velocemente. Non possono essere ancora rallentate da questo annuncio.

Gli impegni politici presi dal DUP devono essere onorati. Ciò significa indicare una data per il trasferimento dei poteri su polizia e giustizia.

Sospetto che il tentativo di dimostrazione di unità del DUP di oggi sia stato coreografato per fornire un atterraggio morbido per l’assediato Robinson.

Il suo farsi immediatamente da parte come primo ministro può essere benissimo un segnale precursore della sua dimissione da leader DUP, in un momento a sua scelta.

Se, d’altra parte, il DUP segue genuinamente Robinson, allora sono ancora più lontani dall’opinione pubblica.

Il danno fatto da Robinson si è trasferito al DUP da questo sostegno inequivocabile.

Siamo in un momento in cui Peter Robinson ha deciso di farsi da parte per permettere un po’ di spazio per respirare e l’opportunità di realizzare dei progressi mentre si concentra su alcune materie personali e familiari.

A round-up of the reaction to Peter Robinson’s decision to step down as first minister for six weeks following revelations about his wife’s personal and financial affairs.

ARLENE FOSTER, ACTING FIRST MINISTER

“All our elected representatives have clearly stated that they wanted Peter Robinson to be their leader going into the future.

“The very clear message from today, from the DUP is that we will choose our leader. We have chosen our leader and we are saying very clearly to him and indeed the rest of the political parties and the media here – “This is the man that we want to lead unionism”.

NIGEL DODDS, DUP DEPUTY LEADER

“The DUP has sat down and used its head. It hasn’t been buffeted or panicked into any particular decision.

“It has decided it’s going to act in what it believes is its best interests in supporting a leader who has clearly stated he has done nothing wrong and who we believe will be vindicated in that.”

“Peter Robinson is entitled to take this time off from his duties to attend to his personal matters.

“However it is crucially important that the outstanding political issues are resolved and resolved speedily. They cannot become further stalled by this announcement.
