Liam Adams was in IRA ‘nuttig squad’

Convicted IRA man Liam Adams – who is suspected of being a British agent – was part of a gang involved in the murder of a Provo accused of being… a police tout!
The Sunday World can reveal that Liam Adams was a member of the IRA’s so-called ‘Nutting Squad’ charged with hunting down informants within its ranks.
And one of the gang’s victims was Joe ‘Shoot Him In The Knees’ Mulhern.
The 23-year-old single man was a member of an IRA punishment sqad based in west Belfast who was shot dead 14 months before the Provos’ first ceasefire.
The leaders of the IRA’s ‘Nutting Squa’, John Joe Magee and Freddie Scappaticci, had accused Mulhern of being an RUC Special Branch informant.
Amazingly, it later emerged that both Magee and Scappaticci – aka ‘Stakeknife’ – were both working as British intelligence agents.
On June 12, 1993, Mulhern vanished without trace from his Nansen Street home off the Falls Road.
Dumped
He was a member of a Provo punishment squad based in the Beechmount area of west Belfast.
Ten days after his disappearance, the body of ‘Shoot Him In The Knees’ Mulhern was found dumped on an unapproved road in an isolated spot 70 metres on the Tyrone side of the border.
The IRA claimed he had worked for the RUC Special Branch since 1990.
According to republican sources, Liam Adams was a well known member of the IRA’s ‘Nutting Squad’ or Civil Administration Team.
“He was part of the team run by John Joe Magee and Freddie Scappaticci, ” a republican source told the Sunday World yesterday (December 27).
“If he was an informant, then ‘Shoot Him In The Knees’ Mulhern he wasn’t a very high ranking informant.
“But it looks like the IRA was killing a small time informant to protect the bigger ones like John Joe Magee and ‘The Scap’.”
