Liam Adams si appella alla Corte Suprema di Dublino

Il fratello del presidente dello Sinn Fein sta portando la lotta contro l’estradizione dalla Repubblica d’Irlanda nel tribunale più importante, dopo le voci che una lettera era stata occultata alla sua squadra di avvocati.

Liam Adams è ricercato in Irlanda del Nord per le presunte violenze sessuali nei confronti della figlia.

Durante una breve udienza presso l’Alta Corte di Dublino, l’avvocatessa di Adams, Maeve Corbett, ha detto che stanno presentando un appello alla Corte Suprema per ottenere copia della lettera tra il Crown Prosecution Service di Belfast e le autorità di Dublino.

Il giudice Michael Peart ha aggiornato il caso al prossimo 6 ottobre.

Adams, che si consegnò spontaneamente alla polizia della Repubblica lo scorso marzo, è stato esonerato dal tribunale e non era presente all’udienza di mercoledì. E’ ancora libero con la condizionale.

Durante una precedenza udienza l’avvocato Michael O’Higgins, del team di Adams, aveva ribadito la necessità di visionare la lettera perché se fossero state suggerite mancanze nell’emissione del mandato di arresto europeo (European Arresa Warrant) che echeggiavano le loro preoccupazioni, allora potrebbe aiutare il loro caso.

Gli investigatori di Belfast vogliono interrogare Adams su 18 accuse di abuso sessuale, compreso stupro, aggressione indecente e atti osceni nei confronti della figlia Aine Tyrrell, che rinunciò a diritto all’anonimato lo scorso dicembre.

I presunti reati sarebbero stati compiuti tra marzo 1977 e marzo 1983.

Liam Adams ha anche chiesto assistenza giudiziaria per coprire le spese di trascrizione dei rapporti riguardanti le accuse di abuso sessuale.

The brother of Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams is to take his extradition fight to the Republic’s highest court over claims that a letter was being withheld from his legal team.

Liam Adams is wanted in Northern Ireland for the alleged rape and indecent assault of his daughter.

During a brief hearing in Dublin’s High Court Mr Adam’s barrister Maeve Corbett (Junior Counsel) said they were appealing to the Supreme Court to have the letter between the Crown Prosecution Service in Belfast and authorities in Dublin disclosed to them.

Mr Justice Michael Peart adjourned the case until October 6.

Mr Adams, who handed himself into the Garda in the Irish Republic last March, had been excused from attending court and was not present on Wednesday. He has been remanded on continuing bail.

At an earlier hearing Mr Adams’ senior counsel Michael O’Higgins said it was necessary they saw the letter because if it suggested any shortcomings in the European Arrest Warrant that echoed their own concerns then it would help their case.

Investigators in Belfast want to question Mr Adams on 18 charges of sexual abuse, including rape, indecent assault and gross indecency, against his daughter Aine Tyrell, who waived her right to anonymity last December.

The alleged offences date from March 1977 to March 1983.

Mr Adams has also asked for legal aid to cover the costs of transcribing reports from Belfast media outlets about his sex abuse charges.
