Nella giornata di lunedì si è presentato presso una stazione di polizia della Garda (la polizia della Repubblica d’Irlanda, ndt) nella contea di Sligo.
La polizia non era nella possibilità di arrestare Adams a Sligo perché non c’era un mandato di arresto europeo (European Arrest Warrant).
La PSNI sta provvedendo alla sua preparazione, per le accuse fatte contro Liam Adams.
La scorsa settimana Gerry Adams aveva chiesto al fratello di consegnarsi alla polizia per rispondere delle accuse di abuso sessuale nei confronti di un membro della famiglia.
Liam Adams ha vissuto in diversi momenti a Dundalk e nella contea di Donegal e la Garda sapeva della ricerca da parte delle autorità nordirlandesi.
La storia è venuta alla luce dopo che la donna al centro deli presunti abusi, la figlia di Liam Adams, ha tolto il velo di anonimato, raccontando la sua storia.
Aine Tyrrell, la figlia di Liam Adams, ha fatto accuse pubbliche, affermando di essere stata abusata dal padre per almeno 8 anni, a partire dalla fine degli anni Settanta.
Ha detto di ricordarsi tutto, compresa la violenza sessuale, fin da quando aveva 4 anni.
A novembre 2008, quasi 30 anni dopo alcuni dei presunti abusi ed in seguito ad una indagine della polizia nordirlandese, Liam Adams doveva affrontare 23 capi di imputazione in tribunale, ma fuggì.
Durante lo scorso fine settimana Gerry Adams ha rivelato che suo padre aveva abusato di membri della famiglia.

Liam Adams has presented himself to a garda station in Co Sligo in the past 24 hours where he offered to make himself available.
Gardaí were not in a position to arrest Liam Adams in Sligo yesterday as they did not have a European arrest warrant.
A warrant is now being prepared by the PSNI on the charges that have been made against him.

The story came to light after the woman at the centre of the abuse allegations, Liam Adams’ daughter, waived her anonymity in order to tell her story.
She is making public allegations that over a period of at least eight years, beginning in the late 1970s, she was abused by her father. She featured in a special UTV programme last week.
She claims she can remember the alleged offences, including rape, from the time she was four.
In November of last year, 30 years after some of the alleged abuses and following a PSNI investigation, Liam Adams was to face 23 court charges – but he went missing.
Over the weekend, Gerry Adams revealed that his own father had abused members of his family.
