Il Belfast City Council ha chiesto scusa per aver eliminato la bandiera dalla City Hall sulle sue catoline di auguri natalizi
Alcuni politici unionisti hanno sollevato questioni dopo aver scoperto che una vecchia immagine dell’edificio, comprendente anche la grande ruota panoramica, era stata modificata per i biglietti di auguri.
Un portavoce del Consiglio ha detto che “andava utilizzata” un’immagine attuale dell’edificio.
Ha proseguito: “La fotografia utilizzata è vecchia ed è l’unica festiva in nostro possesso sia con la neve che con le decorazioni di Natale.
“La foto originale comprendeva anche la grande ruota. È stato un errore fatto in buona fede quello di ritoccare la foto per riflettere la vista attuale della City Hall.
“Avremmo dovuto usare una foto attuale della City Hall senza bandiera e senza ruota panoramica. Abbiamo già chiesto scusa alla dirigenza DUP nel Consiglio e la spiegazione è stata accettata”.
L’anno scorso il Consiglio votò per cambiare la politica di esposizione delle bandiere alla City Hall, provocando una vasta ondata di proteste in tutto il Nordirlanda.
I biglietti di auguri, con la foto ritoccata, sono stati stampati e consegnati ai membri del Consiglio, che hanno 50 copie a testa da distribuire a proprio piacimento.

Row over flag on City Hall Xmas card
Belfast City Council has apologised for using a photograph of City Hall with the flag airbrushed out on its Christmas card.
Some unionist politicians raised concerns after it emerged that an old image of the building, which also included the big wheel, had been edited for the cards.
A spokesperson for the council said a current picture “should have been used”.
He went on: “The photograph used is an older stock image and the only festive one we had that included both snow and the Christmas signage.
“The original also included the big wheel. It was an honest mistake to airbrush the photograph to reflect the current view of the City Hall.
“An authentic image of City Hall without the flag and big wheel should have been used. We have already apologised to the DUP leadership on the council and the explanation was accepted.”
The council voted last year to change the flag-flying policy at City Hall to designated days, prompting widespread protests across Northern Ireland.
The cards, in their airbrushed format, have been printed and handed out to members of the council, who each get 50 to distribute as they please.
