Lo Sinn Fein critica il doppio mandato di Diane Dodds

Lo Sinn Fein ha criticato la parlamentare europea del DUP, Diane Dodds, perché continua a sedere nel Belfast City Council dopo essere stata eletta a Strasburgo.

Il consigliere shinner Conor Maskey afferma che la Dodds ed il suo partito “stanno venendo meno agli impegni”.

Ha aggiunto: “Voglio chiedere ancora una volta al DUP di spiegare il ritardo in relazione al problema”.

Un portavoce del DUP ha risposto: “Diane Dodds si dimetterà dal Belfast City Council appena sia passata la legge che permette l’immediata scelta di un sostituto per il consiglio comunale.

“Il DUP è l’unico partito che lavora per la completa eliminazione del doppio mandato nelle nostre fila. Continueremo a fare così in una maniera ordinata e strutturata”.

Sinn Fein has challenged DUP MEP Diane Dodds for continuing to sit on Belfast City Council after her election as an MEP.

SF councillor Conor Maskey said Mrs Dodds and her party appeared to be “reneging on commitments”.

He added: “I would call once again on the DUP to explain the delay in relation to this matter.”

A DUP spokesman said: “Diane Dodds will be stepping down from Belfast City Council as soon as the legislation to allow for the immediate co-option of a replacement to the council is passed.

“The DUP is the only party working towards the complete elimination of dual mandates in our ranks. We will continue to do so in an ordered and structured manner.”
