Lo Sinn Fein si oppone alla chiusura di una stazione di polizia

Sinn Fein oppose closure of police station

Sinn Fein = PSNI station | Sinn Fein = Stazione di poliziaAnother milestone has been passed in Northern Ireland politics after Sinn Fein — for the first time — opposed the closure of a police station.

Councillor Paul Maguire has appealed for Broughshane’s PSNI station to stay open and be developed as a community facility.

He told a consultation meeting recently that he saw the station as an asset from which police could serve both the picturesque Co Antrim village and also the surrounding area.

“Not only can it serve as a base for the PSNI, but also other statutory agencies and community organisations,” he said. Mr Maguire added: “It is the first time a member of Sinn Fein has opposed the closing of a police station.”

The councillor said he agreed with the local PSNI commander, Chief Superintendent Chris Noble, that there was no need for the building to be devoted exclusively to police use.
