Parlando in relazione alla recente uccisione di un ufficiale della PSNI a Omagh, Adams aveva affermato che éirígí non aveva precisato la propria posizione sull’azione e come risultato stava “correndo ai ripari”.
Mac Cionnaith detto: “Questo è l’ultimo nella lunga fila di attacchi cinici provenienti da Gerry Adams e dalla dirigenza del Sinn Féin contro éirígí. Questi attacchi sono motivati da null’altro che la paura dello Sinn Féin riguardo al coerente messaggio repubblicano socialista di éirígí, in grado di guadagnare sempre maggiore sostegno in aree che Adams e soci vedono come propri feudi personali politici.
“La posizione di éirígí sulla recente uccisione di Omagh e sulle altre azioni armate è chiara e univoca. Il partito non è allineato né fornisce supporto a gruppi armati o alle loro azioni. Questa è stata la nostra posizione sin dalla nostra fondazione, avvenuta cinque anni fa. Qualcosa di Gerry Adams è ben consapevole.
“Gerry Adams sta cercando di oscurare questa posizione con atti che imitano i ministri britannici thatcheriani ed i politici più reazionari delle Ventisei Contee. È impegnato in una malvagia fissazione, che una volta era utilizzata contro lo Sinn Féin, quando l’establishment li considerava una minaccia”.
MacCionnaith ha aggiunto: “E’ poco plausibile per Adams sostenere che éirígí «corre a ripararsi» nel momento in cui stiamo, di fatto, presentandoci alle elezioni nel suo ex collegio elettorale di West Belfast. I nostri attivisti fanno propaganda quotidiana sul terreno a West Belfast, qualcosa di cui Gerry Adams è ben consapevole.
“E questo è esattamente ciò su cui sono stati fatti i commenti. Incapace di trattare con la piattaforma di éirígí contro i tagli ai servizi pubblici in corso di attuazione da parte della coalizione di Stormont, il presidente dello Sinn Féin si è ridotto a creare non-problemi di sua immaginazione.
“I portavoce éirígí si sono sempre resi disponibili per un commento pubblico su ogni aspetto delle politiche del partito e continueremo a farlo.
“éirígí è ha offerto allo Sinn Féin un dibattito pubblico sul futuro orientamento della lotta repubblicana, cui non hanno finora risposto. Se lo Sinn Féin è genuinamente interessato a impegnarsi con l’Irlanda repubblicana, dovranno accettare quest’offerta.
“Tuttavia, éirígí è più interessato e focalizzato sulla ricostruzione della lotta socialista repubblicana nella zona di West Belfast, a Dublino ed in tutto il paese. Chiunque abbia a cuore gli interessi dei lavoratori di Irlanda dovrebbe fare lo stesso “.

Mac Cionnaith Slams Adams Comments
Speaking in relation to the recent killing of a PSNI officer in Omagh, Adams claimed that éirígí had not stated their position on the action and were “running for cover” as a result.
Mac Cionnaith said: “This is the latest in the long line of cynical attacks by Gerry Adams and others in the Sinn Féin leadership upon éirígí. These attacks are motivated by nothing more than Sinn Féin’s fear that éirígí’s coherent socialist republican message is gaining increasing support in areas that Adams & Co regard as their personal political fiefdoms.
“éirígí’s position on the recent killing in Omagh and on other armed actions is clear and unambiguous. The party is not aligned to or supportive of any armed groups or their actions. This has been our position since our foundation five years ago, something Gerry Adams is well aware of.
“Gerry Adams is attempting to obscure this position in acts that mimic British Thatcherite ministers and the most reactionary of Twenty-Six County politicians. He is engaged in felon setting of a kind that was once used against Sinn Féin when the establishment deemed them a threat.”
Mac Cionnaith added: “It is hardly plausible for Mr Adams to claim that éirígí are ‘running for cover’ at a time when we are, in fact, running for election in his former constituency in West Belfast. Scores or our activists are canvassing daily on the ground in West Belfast, something Gerry Adams is also well aware of.
“And this is exactly what today’s comments were about. Incapable of dealing with éirígí’s platform against the cutbacks to public services being implemented by the Stormont coalition, the president of Sinn Féin is reduced to creating non-issues of his own imagining.
“éirígí spokespeople have consistently made themselves available for public comment on every aspect of the party’s policies and we will continue to do so.
“éirígí is on the record as offering Sinn Féin a public debate on the future direction of the republican struggle, an offer which they have, so far, declined to even respond to. If Sinn Féin is genuinely interested in engaging with republican Ireland, they will take this offer up.
“However, éirígí is more interested in and focused upon rebuilding the socialist republican struggle in west Belfast, in Dublin and across the country. Anybody who has the best interests of the working people of Ireland at heart should be doing the same.”
