Kyle Martin Jones, 27 anni, è accusato di aver consegnato le liste con i dettagli negli ultimi tre mesi, in cambio di caffè, sigarette e cibo.
L’ex agente, di Ballyclare, è condannato per rapina. È comparso in aula nel tribunale di Craigavon in base alla legge sul terrorismo, per aver raccolto informazioni che i terroristi potrebbero utilizzare.
Un investigatore ha raccontato al giudice distrettuale Alan White che i documenti contenenti esaustivi dettagli sugli ex colleghi di Jones all’interno della PSNI comprendevano nomi, relazioni familiari, veicoli utilizzati, stili di vita ed abitudini personali. Nelle liste c’erano sia poliziotti in servizio che in pensione.
Durante gli interrogatori di polizia, è stato riferito in aula, Jones ha ammesso di aver compilato gli elenchi ma ha spiegato di non aver avuto intenti pericolosi, ma solamente uno “scopo terapeutico”. L’ex agente era arruolato nella polizia dal 2005 al 2010.
In due dichiarazioni preparate e consegnate agli investigatori, Jones ha ammesso di aver compilato una lista contenente i dettagli di 51 persone conosciute ai tempi dell’università.
Jones, rilasciato lo scorso mese con la condizionale, era stato nuovamente arrestato mercoledì e portato nella Serious Crime Suite nella stazione di polizia di Antrim.
Riferisce l’investigatore che inizialmente Jones si era rifiutato di rispondere alle domande. Solo dopo aver parlato con il suo avvocato aveva consegnato le due dichiarazioni scritte.
Nel testo Jones ammetteva di essere l’autore della lista. Ha affermato di aver scritto i dettagli di altri 45 agenti di polizia e di 51 persone conosciute dai tempi dell’università, ma ha negato qualsiasi intento maligno.
Il giudice ha rimandato in custodia l’ex agente. Entro la fine del mese comparirà nuovamente in aula in video collegamento.
Police details ‘passed to inmates’
Kyle Martin Jones, 27, is accused of handing over the lists inside HMP Maghaberry, Co Antrim, during the last three months in exchange for coffee, cigarettes and food.
The former officer from Ballyclare, Co Antrim, who had been on remand in the prison on robbery charges, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court charged under the Terrorism Act with collecting information that could be used by terrorists.
A detective told district judge Alan White that the documents contained extensive details about Jones’s former colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), including names, family relationships, vehicles they drove and lifestyle and personal habits. Both serving and retired officers were mentioned.
The court heard that during police interviews Jones, who served in the PSNI from 2005 to 2010, admitted compiling the lists, but insisted there was no sinister intent, and he had instead produced them for “therapeutic purposes”.
In two prepared statements handed to detectives, he also claimed he had compiled a list containing details of 51 people from his university days.
Jones, who had been released from Maghaberry on bail late last month, was arrested on Wednesday and taken for questioning at the PSNI’s Serious Crime Suite in Antrim.
The detective said he initially answered “no comment” to all questions. The officer said the suspect then consulted his solicitor and at the next interview produced two pre-prepared statements.
In them he admitted to being the author of the list. He claimed he had also compiled details of 45 other officers and 51 people from his time at university. But he denied malicious intent.
He remanded Jones in custody to appear before court via videolink at the end of the month.
