Maltrattati in aeroporto i membri del Republican Network for Unity. Arrestato Tony TC Catney

Comunicato rilasciato da Danny McBrearty, presidente nazionale di RNU

Quest’oggi (il comunicato è di ieri, Ndt) una delegazione dell’Ard Comhairle (Esecutivo Nazionale) del Republican Network for Unity, di ritorno da alcuni incontri a Glasgow, è stata trattenuta nella zona arrivi del Belfast International Airport da un gruppo di circa 20 poliziotti in uniforme e in abiti civili.

Mentre uno del membri dell’Ard Comhairle di Derry veniva interrogato, un membro della RUC/PSNI in abiti civili gli ha detto minacciosamente di essere ben a conoscenza dei dettagli sulla sua famiglia dei nomi dei suoi figli.

Lo stesso poliziotto quindi gli ha chiesto se aveva informazioni su quelli che stavano viaggiando con lui e/o sul Republican Network for Unity in generale. Poi hanno arrestato Tony ‘T.C.’ Catney, membro dell’Esecutivo Nazionale. Mentre un altro appartenente alla delegazione del RNU ha cercato di parlare con Tony Catney in gaelico su quanto stava accadendo, il gruppo di poliziotti li hanno circondati iniziando a ridere e fare commenti idioti sulla lingua utilizzata.

Quindi Tony ‘TC’ Catney, vistosamente ammanettato, è stato condotto attraverso il terminal principale dell’aeroporto da quattro agenti armati in uniforme e da due in abiti civili.

Questo arresto è l’ultimo di una serie di misure dirette negli ultimi mesi contro i sostenitori e gli appartenenti del Republican Network for Unity. Queste misure vanno da essere obiettivo di continui stop and searches (fermo e perquisizione, Ndt), a incursioni nelle abitazioni di membri e sostenitori, al rilascio di notizie stampa volte ad infangare le persone, tra cui T.C. Catney.

Il Republican Network for Unity intende proseguire ad articolare e mantenere la propria opposizione di stampo repubblicano alla farsa nota come “Good Friday Agreement” (Accordo del Venerdì Santo).

Il Republican Network for Unity chiede l’immediato rilascio di Tony ‘T.C.’ Catney.

Ard Comhairle Members Detained, Harassed And One Arrested At Airport

Statement from Danny Mc Brearty, National Chairperson, Republican Network for Unity

“Earlier today a Republican Network for Unity Ard Comhairle delegation, returning from a series of meetings in Glasgow, was detained at Belfast International Airport arrivals by a group of approximately twenty (20) uniformed and plain clothed RUC/PSNI members.

As one an Ard Comhairle member from Derry was being questioned, the plain clothed RUC/PSNI man menacingly told him that he was well aware of the make up of the individual’s family and of the details and names of his children.

The same plain clothed RUC/PSNI man then inquired if he had any information on those he was travelling with and/or of the RNU in general. Ard Comhairle member Tony (T.C.) Catney was then arrested. As another member of the RNU delegation tried speaking with T.C. in Gaeilge about what was happening, the group of RUC/PSNI surrounding them began laughing and making idiotic noises concerning the Irish language.

Openly handcuffed T.C. was lead through the main Airport terminal by four uniformed armed and two plain clothes RUC/PSNI men.

This arrest is but the latest in a catalogue of measures directed in recent months against the supporters and membership of the Republican Network for Unity. This has ranged from being the targets of continual stop and searches, raids upon our members and supporters homes, through press briefings which have been aimed at smearing individuals, T.C. being one of them.

The Republican Network for Unity resolves to continue to articulate and maintain resolute principled republican political opposition against the charade which is known as the ‘Good Friday Agreement’.

The Republican Network for Unity calls for the immediate release of Tony Catney.”
