Il 21 marzo a Derry si terrà una manifestazione per dare risalto alla detenzione di Marian Price e di Hana al-Shalabi, la donna palestinese in sciopero della fame dal 16 febbraio.
Ad organizzare l’evento, che avrà luogo alle 17 in Guildhall Square, il Prisons Crisis Group e gli attivisti in favore della Palestina.
Betty Doherty, portavoce del Prisons Crisis Group, afferma: “Il nostro gruppo concentra il proprio operato sui prigionieri nel Nord, con un occhio di riguardo per Marian Price.
“Ma i paralleli con il caso di Hana sono impressionanti. Entrambe sono in carcere senza accusa né processo, solo per la parola dei politici. Ossia entrambe sono prigioniere politiche che si sono sentite obbligate a ricorrere allo sciopero della fame per fare conoscere la propria situazione e per far sentire la propria voce.
“Mettere in relazione questi casi ci ricorda che la lotta per la giustizia è la stessa in tutto il mondo. Chiediamo alle persone di portare striscioni e cartelli alle cinque davanti alla Guildhall, ma soprattutto di portare sé stessi”.

Prisoners protest to be held in Derry
A demonstration is to be held in Derry to highlight the ongoing detention of Marian Price and Palestinian hunger-striker Hana al-Shalabi.
Organised by Palestinian solidarity campaigners and the Prisons Crisis Group, the demo will be held at 5pm on March 21 in Guildhall Square.
Betty Doherty, spokesperson for the Prisons Crisis Group said: “Our group has been focused on prisoners in the North and particularly Marian Price.
“But the parallels with Hana’s case are striking. Both are in prison without charge or trial on the say-so of politicians. That is to say, both are political prisoners who have felt compelled to resort to hunger-strike to make their situation known and their voices heard.
“Linking the cases reminds us that the struggle for justice is the same the whole world over. We ask people to bring banners and placards to the Guildhall at five o’clock but most of all to bring themselves.”
