Mickey McGonigle ha rilasciato il commento durante la commemorazione della Rivolta di Pasqua svoltasi domenica presso il City Cemetery, organizzata dal Republican Sinn Fein. All’evento hanno partecipato circa 30 persone.
Il repubblicano di Duginven ha anche detto che il vice primo ministro è “impegnato con la polizia”.
Il Republican Sinn Fein (RSF) si è diviso dallo Sinn Fein nel 1986, in contrasto con la decisione di occupare i seggi conquistati a Leinster House (sede del parlamento irlandese). Da allora il RSF è rimasto un piccolo partito.
Parlando alla fine della breve commemorazione, McGonigle ha affermato: “Martin McGuinness disse a Sean Keenan ed a me, in una casa di Creggan, che non avrebbe sostenuto nessuno a Leinster House ma aveva già preso una decisione a riguardo.
“Mi ha detto nel 1987 che non sarebbe andato a Stormont e guardatelo ora. Martin dovrebbe nascondersi per la vergogna. E’ troppo impegnato con la polizia e l’esercito britannico”.
Ha anche criticato la richiesta del leader dello Sinn Féin di fornire informazioni sulle attività dei gruppi repubblicani.
“Lui dice alla gente di dare informazioni alla polizia. A suo tempo in questa città c’era gente che veniva punita per questo.
“Ha anche supervisionato, insieme a Gerry Adams, la cessione delle armi. Anche per questo la gente veniva punita. Questo è tradimento e dovrebbe essere giustiziato”, ha detto.
Lo sfogo è giunto alla fine della commemorazione, durante la quale corone di fiori sono state deposte ai piedi del monumento a Cúchulain a nome “della dirigenza del movimento repubblicano”.
Pat Barry ha letto una dichiarazione della dirigenza della Continuity IRA.
La dichiarazione affermava che il gruppo armato “ha portato la guerra al nemico” nel corso dell’ultimo anno.
Anche i messaggi scritti dai prigionieri della Continuity IRA in Maghaberry e Portlaoise sono stati letti durante la commemorazione.
Nei messaggi i prigionieri chiedono l’attuazione dell’accordo siglato lo scorso anno a Maghaberry, firmato per ridurre le tensioni nella prigione.
Seanin Brady, nipote di McGonigle, recitato una decina del Rosario in irlandese e l’orazione principale è stata effettuata da Cait Trainor, di Armagh.
Durante l’orazione ha criticato la prossima visita della regina Elisabetta in Irlanda e ha condannato quello che ha descritto come “molestia” verso i repubblicani a Derry.
Ha anche detto: “I collaborazionisti a Stormont pensano di aver pacificato il popolo repubblicano, con la condivisione del potere, ma stanno condividendo il dominio britannico.
“I politici di Stormont dicono alla gente di non avere altra scelta, ma abbiamo l’alternativa.
“Non accetteremo concessioni. L’unica cosa che possiamo accettare è un completo ritiro britannico” ha concluso.
La commemorazione è stata chiusa da Whitey O’Neill che ha suonato l’inno nazionale.

McGuinness ‘should have been executed’ for treason
Mickey McGonigle made the comment during an Easter Rising commemoration held in the City Cemetery on Sunday, organised by Republican Sinn Féin. Around 30 people attended the event.
The Dungiven republican also claimed the Deputy First Minister is “committed to the police”.
Republican Sinn Féin (RSF) split from Sinn Féin in 1986 over the party’s decision to take their seats in Leinster House. RSF have remained a small party since then.
Speaking at the end of the short commemoration event, Mr McGonigle said; “Martin McGuinness told the late Sean Keenan and I in a house in Creggan that he would not support anyone going into Leinster House but he had already made his mind up about that.
“He told me in 1987 that he would not be going up the steps of Stormont and look at him now. Martin should hang his head in shame. He is too much committed to the police and the British military.”
He also criticised the Sinn Féin leader’s call for people to give information to the police on the activities of dissident republicans.
“He tells people to give information to the police. In his time in this city there was people shot for that.
“He also, along with Gerry Adams, oversaw the giving away of guns. People were also shot for that. That is treason and he should have been executed,” he said.
The unscripted outburst came at the end of a commemoration event during which wreaths were laid at the Cúchulain monument on behalf of “the leadership of the republican monument”.
A statement from the leadership of the Continuity IRA was also read by Pat Barry.
The statement claimed the group have been “carrying the war to the enemy” in the last year.
Messages from the Continuity IRA prisoners in Maghaberry and Portlaoise prisoners were also read out.
The prisoners’ messages called for an agreement reached last year to reduce tensions in Magahberry prison to be implemented.
Seanin Brady, granddaughter of Mr McGonigle, recited a decade of the Rosary in Irish and the main oration was delivered by Cait Trainor, Armagh.
During the oration she criticised the upcoming visit of Queen Elizabeth to Ireland and condemned what she described as “harassment” of republicans in Derry.
She also said; “The quislings at Stormont think they have pacified the republican people with power sharing but they are sharing British rule.
“Stormont politicians tell people they have no other option but we have the alternative.
“We will not accept concessions. The only thing we will accept is a full British withdrawal,” she said.
The commemoration was brought to a close by Whitey O’Neill playing the National Anthem.
