Martin McGuinness: I’m not bothered by gun photograph

gun-pic_125381gNorthern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said he is “not a bit concerned” about newly published photographs showing him brandishing a gun in the early 1970s.

The image was retrieved recently from an American archive by Families Acting for Innocent Relatives campaigner William Frazer.

However, the senior Sinn Fein figure insisted: “The past is the past.

“I’m involved in carving out a better future for everyone including Willie Frazer.

“I am not a bit concerned about it.”

This week is the 40th anniversary of the Battle of the Bogside where a teenage McGuinness was a rioter.

It would never have occurred to him then that he would be sharing a joint top office at Stormont with the main leader of unionism.

But Mr McGuinness also said he “could not fathom” why leaders of the Orange Order are not willing to meet with the Sinn Fein leadership.
