Il parlamentare dello Sinn Féin – nonché vice primo ministro nordirlandese – Martin McGuinness ha detto che l’accordo sottoscritto da tutti i partiti di Stormont protegge gli elementi più vulnerabili della società e contribuirà ad affrontare l’eredità del passato.
Martin McGuinness ha detto:
“Lo Sinn Féin ha proposto il raggiungimento di un accordo globale e abbiamo fatto progressi su diverse questioni.
“Ci sono stati progressi su questioni importanti, tra cui un pacchetto finanziario e abbiamo protetto i più vulnerabili della società contro i tagli al welfare voluto dai Tory. Abbiamo fatto passi avanti anche sulle questioni relative alle bandiere, alle sfilate e sul passato.
“Abbiamo concordato un pacchetto finanziario globale per affrontare l’eredità del conflitto e per promuovere la pace e la riconciliazione. Questo pacchetto finanziario servirà anche a contribuire a portare stabilità alle istituzioni condivise.
“Abbiamo avallato un pacchetto di protezione sociale per le persone più vulnerabili nella nostra società, per garantire che non ci sia alcuna riduzione dei benefici sotto il controllo dell’Assemblea.
“Queste protezioni sono uniche in Irlanda del Nord e sono in netto contrasto con il sistema di austerity sociale da poco uscito in Gran Bretagna.
“Abbiamo lavorato intensamente per portare avanti le controverse questioni sull’identità, sulle parate e sul passato. Lo Sinn Féin ha sostenuto che qualsiasi processo riguardi l’eredità del passato, deve essere incentrato sulle vittime.
“Sono stati istituiti anche una serie di meccanismi affinché le famiglie che hanno perso i propri cari durante il conflitto possano essere in grado di perseguire verità e giustizia attraverso le inchieste del medico legale.
“Abbiamo anche realizzato una serie di procedure per il recupero di verità equilibrate per affrontare il passato. Abbiamo dato l’assenso ad una Commissione du Bandiere, Identità, Cultura e Tradizione e abbiamo stabilito che la responsabilità sulle parate dovrebbe passare all’Assemblea.
“Lo Sinn Féin si impegna ad andare avanti sui progressi compiuti dai partiti dell’Esecutivo negli ultimi giorni. È nostra intenzione avanti questo lavoro positivo nel tempo a venire”.

Sinn Féin committed to building on progress made in agreement – McGuinness
Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness has said the all-party agreement reached today protects the most vulnerable in society and will help deal with the legacy of the past.
Martin McGuinness said;
“Sinn Féin set out to achieve a comprehensive agreement and we have made progress on a range of issues.
“There has been progress on significant issues including a financial package and we have protected the most vulnerable in society against the Tory welfare cuts. We have also made headway on the issues of flags, parades and the past.
“We agreed a comprehensive financial package to deal with the legacy of the conflict and to promote peace and reconciliation. This financial package will also help bring stability to the powersharing institutions.
“We agreed a welfare protection package for the most vulnerable people in our society to ensure there is no reduction in benefits within the control of the Assembly.
“These protections are unique to the north of Ireland and are in sharp contrast to the austerity-driven welfare system being rolled out in Britain.
“We worked intensively to move forward on the vexed issues of identity, parading and the past. Sinn Féin argued that any process dealing with the legacy of the past needs to be victim centred.
“We successfully made the case that families who had lost loved ones during the conflict should continue to be able to pursue truth and justice through the mechanism of coroners’ inquests.
“We have also achieved a set of balanced truth recovery mechanisms to deal with the past. We agreed a Commission on Flags, Identity, Culture and Tradition and that responsibility for parades should be devolved to the Assembly and built upon.
“Sinn Féin is committed to building on the progress made by the Executive parties over recent days. It is our intention to carry this positive work forward in the time ahead.”
