Il Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) si è dichiarato responsabile per l’esplosione di giovedì scorso, avvenuta nell’area di Lecky Road poco dopo le 23.
Secondo la polizia ci sono stati danni alle cose ma nessuno è rimasto ferito.
Jon Burrows, Ispettore Capo della PSNI, ha condannato l’attacco, affermando che i responsabili non hanno mostrato alcun riguardo per la comunità.
Anche i politici locali hanno condannato l’attacco esplosivo.
In un comunicato inviato al Derry Journal lunedì 6 giugno, il RAAD si è assunto la responsabilità per “alcuni” attacchi coordinati nella zona di Brandywell avvenuti giovedì sera. Il gruppo repubblicano ha aggiunto: “il RAAD vuole cogliere l’opportunità di chiedere scusa alla popolazione civile per qualsiasi disagio, sia mentale che fisico, causato dal daneggiamento delle abitazioni. Altresì ripudiamo la condanna dei politici che piangono lacrime di coccodrillo, dimenticandosi del loro passato”.
La parlamentare Martina Anderson, ministro junior dello Sinn Fein, ha incontrato i residenti poco dopo l’attacco. Afferma: “Nessuna scusa o spiegazione da parte di alcun gruppo può giustificare l’attacco contro la comunità di Brandywell di giovedì sera e neppure quelli contro le comunità di Derry avvenute negli ultimi tempi. Se questo tipo di azioni dissennate continueranno, è solo questione di tempo prima di essere testimoni di ferimenti.
“La migliore ed unica dichiarazione che questi gruppi possono fare è che desisteranno da ulteriori attività e si dissolveranno”.
In uno sviluppo separato, il RAAD ha affermato che una banda guidata da uno spacciatore già condannato sta tenendo in “ostaggio” per debiti di droga. “Questi debiti vengono dichiarati estinti quando [nome della persona] sequestra ai bambini le X-Box, le PlayStation ed i quad oppure i gioielli dei genitori. Il RAAD smetterà di cercare di colpire [nome della persona] quando sarà morto. Chiunque aiuterà le sue attività diventerà un obiettivo”, ha ricordato il gruppo repubblicano.

RAAD ‘apology’ ridiculed
Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) says it was responsible for Thursday night’s bomb attack which happened at Lecky Road just after 11 p.m.
Police said damage was caused to properties, but no-one was injured.
Chief Inspector Jon Burrows condemned the attack and said those responsible had showed no regard for the community.
The incident was also condemned by local politicians.
In a statement sent to the ‘Journal’ yesterday, RAAD said it was responsible for a “number” of co-ordinated attacks in the Brandywell area on Thursday night. The vigilante gang added: “RAAD would like to take this opportunity to apologise to all civilians for any distress, be it mental or physical, which we caused by damaging homes on Thursday night… We also repudiate the condemnation by politicians who cry crocodile tears but forget their own past when it suits.”
Sinn Fein junior minister and local MLA Martina Anderson, who met with local residents shortly after the attack, said: “No apology or explanation by any group can justify the attack on the Brandywell community last Thursday night nor, for that matter, any of the attacks on communities across Derry in recent times. If these type of reckless actions continue, it is only a matter of time before we witness fatalities.
“The best and only statement these groups should make is that they will desist from any further activities and go away.”
In a separate development, RAAD has claimed that a gang led by a convicted drug dealer is holding people to “ransom” over drug debts. “These ‘debts’ are then only paid off when [named person] seizes children’s X-Boxes, Play Stations and quads or even parents’ jewellery. RAAD will only stop targeting [named person] when he is dead. Anyone who facilitates his activities will become a target,” the group said.
