Il parlamentare unionista ha chiesto la restituzione del murales lealista che è stato rubato e posizionato sul bonfire di Divs
Il parlamentare di South Belfast Michael McGimpsey ha chiesto con urgenza agli autori del furto del murales comunitario, preso dalla zona di Linfield Road e posizionato sul bonfire repubblicano di Divis, di restituirlo immediatamente.
Il murales è stato portato via mercoledì sera.
In un comunicato, l’ex ministro della Salute McGimpsey ha affermato: “Mi sono molto preoccupato quando sono stato informato del furto del murales da Linfield Road a Sandy Row. Era stato disegnato da una ragazza della zona e il suo furto ha causato grande irritazione e dolore nella comunità.
“Chiedo a chi ha rimosso il murales per posizionarlo sul bonfire di restituirlo immediatamente.
“Le intenzioni delle persone coinvolte sono chiaramente di innalzare le tensioni comunitarie in un periodo in cui sono già molto sollecitate”.
Giovedì la giornalista ed editorialista dell’Irish News, Allison Morris, ha affermato di essere stata aggredita con un lancio di bottiglie sul luogo del bonfire.
Ha scritto su Twitter: “Appana attaccata con bottiglie da un gruppo di ubriachi sul luogo del bonfire di Divis, i turisti sono scioccati dal benvenuto a West Belfast”

Ha poi aggiunto di non essere rimasta ferita dall’attacco.
L’aggressione è stata condannata da giornalisti e politici.
Paul Maskey, Sinn Fein, ha affermato: “L’attacco contro una giornalista da parte dei cosiddetti guardiani del bonfire di Divis è una disgrazia. Non stanno celebrando nient’altro che la mancanza di rispetto”.

MCGIMPSEY: GIVE BACK SANDY ROW LOYALIST MURAL
AN UUP MLA has called for the return of a south Belfast loyalist mural which was stolen and placed on top of a republican bonfire.
South Belfast MLA Michael McGimpsey has urged those who took a community mural from the Linfield Road area of South Belfast and placed it on a bonfire in the Divis area to return it immediately.
The mural was taken from its hanging place late on Wednesday evening and placed on the internment bonfire.
In a statement, the former UUP Health Minister Michael McGimpsey said, “I was very concerned when I was informed of the theft of the mural from the Linfield Road in Sandy Row. It was designed by a local girl and its removal has caused a great deal of annoyance and hurt in the local community.
“I am calling on those who removed the mural and placed it on the bonfire to return it immediately.
“The intentions of the people involved were clearly to heighten community tensions during a period that is already sensitive.”
On Thursday, Irish News reporter and columnist Allison Morris said she was attacked at the bonfire with bottles.
She tweeted: “Just got attacked with bottles by a bunch of drunken rabble at the Divis bonfire site, tourists looking on shocked.”
She added that she was uninjured in the unprovoked attack in west Belfast.
The attack has been condemned by fellow journalists and politicians.
West Belfast MP Paul Maskey said: “The attack on a journalist from the so-called guardians of the Divis bonfire is a disgrace. They are celebrating nothing but disrespect.”
