Michelle Gildernew vive nel terrore dopo le minacce di morte

La parlamentare delo Sinn Fein Michelle Gildernew ha ricevuto sinistre minacce di morte negli ultimi 12 mesi – tra cui una sinistra telefonata ricevuta da suo figlio di quattro anni, che rispose alla chiamata di un uomo che affermava di aver rapito sua madre ed essere in procinto di ucciderla

In un’emozionale intervista a The Impartial Reporter la parlamentare, madre di tre bambini, ha rivelato di aver sempre tenuto segreto il proprio dolore personale.

“Ho avuto una serie di minacce di morte, le ricevo spesso. Le chiamate sono fatte per lo più a mio padre, possono essere veramente gravi e so che non me riferisce almeno la metà. Non ne ho mai parlato molto, solo le persone vicine a me lo sanno”, ha detto.

L’ultimo anno è stato un momento sconvolgente per la famiglia Gildernew, in particolare dopo la prima chiamata terrificante.

“La prima minaccia ha accorciato la vita di mio padre e mia madre. L’uomo all’altro capo del filo gli chiese se era il padre di Michelle Gildernew. Ha risposto di esserlo. L’uomo disse: «Abbiamo Michelle e le abbiamo puntato un kalashnikov alla testa, con l’intenzione di spararle». Papà era in preda al panico. Poi non riusciva a mettersi in contatto con me”.

Per 20 frenetici minuti il padre della Gildernew ha cercato sua figlia. Lei si trovava ad un incontro a Belfast e non conosceva il panico vissuto al di fuori. Quando finalmente aveva capito che sua figlia era sana e salva, la paura lo ha colto di nuovo.

“Mia sorella assomiglia molto a me, qundi papà pensato che se non avevano preso me forse l’avevano presa al mio posto. Per fortuna siamo entrati in contatto con lei e stava bene”, ha affermato.

Ma due giorni dopo un’altra chiamata è stata fatta, ancora più grave.

“Hanno detto a mio padre: «Abbiamo un machete alla testa di Michelle e abbiamo intenzione di tagliare la testa»”.

Chi fece la telefonata dichiarò inoltre di voler abusare sessualmente assalto della parlamentare.

“E’ stato duro, ma tutto è difficile per i miei genitori. Penso di essere stata protetta da molte cose da loro.

“Recentemente ero a casa di mio padre e a lui è capitato di dire qualcosa al riguardo. Sta ancora ricevendo telefonate. Una mattina ha risposto a sei chiamate in un’ora. Inizialmente sono stati gli Orange Volunteers. Sulla strada di casa passo davanti a cartelli con la sigla OV dipinta su di essi, quindi realmente mi portano a casa”, ha detto in un’intervista all’Impartial Reporter.

E proprio un paio di mesi fa, le minacce hanno avuto una svolta ancora più sinistra.

Riferisce la Gildernew: “E’ stato durante la partita tra Cavan e Fermanagh. Ero a vedere quella partita e mamma e papà stavaano badando ai miei figli. Intorno alle 9 il telefono squillò, era una chiamata internazionale così papà disse: «Questa è probabilmente tua madre – perché solitamente parlavo con loro prima di dormire – perchè non vai a parlare con lei». Così Eunan prende il telefono. Si ferma per un minuto senza dire nulla e mette giù il telefono. Papà gli ha chiesto chi fosse. Eunan rispose: «E’ un uomo, dice che ha preso Michelle Gildernew e ha intenzione di ucciderla». Eunan aveva quattro anni. Ero furiosa che qualcuno avesse fatto una cosa simile ad un bambino “.

La Gildernew telefonò alla polizia la mattina successiva per comunicare loro quanto grave stesse diventando la situazione.

“Sono consapevole dei rischi legati al mio lavoro, ma è molto diverso quando colpisce i bambini. Rende molto più difficile farvi fronte.”

Sorprendentemente ha detto di aver ricevuto minacce di morte fin da quando era un adolescente.

“La peggiore minaccia di morte ricevuta era così grave che Hugh Orde (l’ex comandante della polizia nordirlandese) era disposto a venire a casa mia per riferirmela. E’ stato quando allattavo Emmet, così ho dovuto mettere l’elmetto e l’ho portato con me al lavoro. Sono amareggiata per quello. Qualche settimana prima avevo incontrato Bill Clinton a Enniskillen e ho una grande fotografia di Bill con in braccio il mio bambino, ma dopo poche settimane lui è rimasto a casa perché non potevo rischiare di portarlo in macchina, sapendo che avremmo potuto essere il bersaglio di un agguato “, ha ricordato.

La PSNI attualmente sta indagando le minacce contro Michelle Gildernew.

Chilling death threats to MP

Sinn Fein MP Michelle Gildernew has received several chilling death threats in the last 12 months — with even her four-year-old son picking up the phone to a man claiming he had his mother and he was going to kill her.

In an emotional interview with The Impartial Reporter, the politician and mother-of-three revealed the personal pain she’s been keeping secret.

“I’ve had a number of death threats; I’m getting them all the time. The calls are mostly to my father; they can be really serious and I know I’m not being told the half of it. I haven’t talked about it much; only the people close to me know,” she said.

The last year has been an unsettling time for the Gildernew family, particularly since the first terrifying call.

“The first threat scared the life out of daddy and my mother. The man on the other end asked him if he was Michelle Gildernew’s father. He said he was. The man said: ‘We have Michelle and we have a Kalashnikov to her head and we’re going to shoot her.’ Daddy panicked. Then he couldn’t get hold of me.”

For 20 frantic minutes, Ms. Gildernew’s father searched for his daughter. She was in a meeting in Belfast and was unaware of the panic outside. When he eventually realised his daughter was safe and sound, fear set in again. “My sister looks a lot like me so daddy thought if they hadn’t got me then maybe they got her instead. Thankfully we got hold of her and she was OK too,” she said.

But two days later another call was made and it was getting more serious.

“In the next threat he said to my daddy: ‘We have a machete to Michelle’s head and we’re going to cut her head off.”

The caller also stated that he intended to sexually assault Ms. Gildernew.

“That was bad, but the whole thing is difficult for my parents, you know. I think I’m being protected by a lot of it. I was up at my father’s house recently and he just happened to say something about it. He’s still getting calls. He got six calls in one hour one morning. Initially they were calling themselves the Orange Volunteers. I go past signs on the way home with OV painted on them, so it really brings it home,” she said.

And just a couple of months ago the threats took a more sinister twist.

“It was during the Cavan/Fermanagh game. I was at that match and mummy and daddy were minding my children. About nine o’clock, the phone rang, it was an international call so daddy said: ‘That’s probably your mother — because I’d usually talk to them before bed — why don’t you talk to her.’ So Eunan picks up the phone. He stands for a minute saying nothing and puts the phone down. Daddy asks him who it was. Eunan says: ‘It’s a man, says he’s got Michelle Gildernew and he’s going to kill her. Eunan was four-years-old. I was furious that anyone would do that to a child.”

Ms. Gildernew phoned the police the next morning to inform them of how serious the situation was getting.

“I am conscious of the risks that go with my job but it’s very different when it affects your children. It makes it more difficult to cope with.”

Astonishingly, she says she’s been receiving death threats since she was a teenager.

“The worst death threat ever was so serious that Hugh Orde was prepared to come to my house to tell me about it. That was when I was breast-feeding Emmet so I had to put the tin hat on bringing him with me to work. I am bitter about that one. A few weeks before that I had met Bill Clinton in Enniskillen and I have a great photograph of Bill holding my baby but within weeks he was left at home because I couldn’t risk bringing him in the car knowing that we could have been the target of an ambush,” she recalled.

It’s understood the PSNI are currently investigating the threats made against Ms. Gildernew.
