Questa è la terza volta che l’abitazione viene fatta bersaglio di un attacco, presumibilmente dei (cosiddetti) dissidenti repubblicani.
McLaughlin ha detto che ci sarebbero potute essere conseguenze fatali e ha aggiunto che i codardi assalitori non intimideranno né lui né la sua famiglia. “Questo è un tentato omicidio. Non c’è altro modo per descriverlo”, ha riferito il parlamentare.
“Ai responsabili voglio dire: se avete divergenze nei miei confronti abbiate il coraggio di un confronto faccia a faccia. Le vostre azioni sono tra le più vigliacche e non mi intimideranno e neppure mi distoglieranno dai miei obiettivi”, prosegue McLaughlin.
I dissidenti repubblicani hanno innalzato la loro campagna di violenze. Quest’anno sono stati uccisi due soldati ed un poliziotto.
McLaughlin ha aggiunto: “Chiedo ai gruppi responsabili per questo genere di attacchi attraverso le loro pubbliche e retoriche minacce di uscire allo scoperto e spiegare come questo genere di azioni possano far avanzare di un passo la causa per la libertà irlandese.
“Avevano la possibilità di provare la loro influenza alle prossime elezioni europee ma ovviamente hanno capito che sarebbero stati totalmente rifiutati dalla popolazione e non hanno avuto il coraggio di presentare un candidato”, ha concluso il parlamentare shinner.
Due molotov hanno causato bruciatura al muro nella zona di Blucher Street nel quartiere repubblicano di Bogside poco dopo l’una di notte. McLaughlin ha lodato i suoi vicini di casa per la loro vigilanza e ha chiesto a chi non la pensa come lui di parlare.

Mr McLaughlin said there could have been fatal consequences and added the cowardly assailants would not intimidate him or his family. “This is attempted murder and there is no other way to describe it,” he said.
He added: “To those individuals who are responsible I would say, ‘if you have some difference with me have the courage to confront me face-to-face. Your actions are those of the most cowardly and will not intimidate me or deflect me from the course I am on’.”
Dissident republicans have stepped up their campaign of violence. Two soldiers and a policeman have been shot dead this year.
Mr McLaughlin added: “To those groups ultimately responsible for this type of attack through their rhetoric and public threat I call on them to come forward and explain how these types of actions will progress the cause of Irish freedom one iota.
“They had the opportunity to test their position at the forthcoming European elections but obviously realise that they would have been totally rejected by the Irish people and did not have the courage to put forward a candidate.”
Two devices caused scorch damage to the wall of the property in the Blucher Street area of the Bogside shortly after 1am. Mr McLaughlin praised neighbours for their vigilance and called on those who disagreed with his policies to speak up.
