SDLP canvassers target of Tyrone petrol bomb
A car belonging to SDLP canvassers has been the target of a petrol bomb attack in Coagh, County Tyrone.
Several members of the group, working on behalf of assembly candidate Patsy McGlone, had observed a person removing SDLP campaign posters.
The canvassers later discovered a smoking object under their car which was identified as a petrol bomb. Nobody was in the vehicle at the time.
The area has been sealed off by the police.
Mr McGlone said that it may have been a sectarian attack.
“I don’t know, but I could seriously speculate that it was some sort of sectarian attack, because unfortunately in the village there have been a number of petrol bomb attacks in the past,” he said.
“That is in no way reflective of the vast majority of people in this village, who are good law-abiding people.
“But nevertheless there is a small minority who seem intent on causing a lot of trouble. I hope those responsible for this and other attacks will be rounded up and put in prison.”
