Gli investigatori hanno avviato le indagini per scoprire i responsabili di un attacco con bottiglie incendiarie contro l’ufficio dell’Alliance Party a East Belfast
Sabato sera, intorno alle 22:45, due bottiglie molotov sono state lanciate contro l’ufficio della parlamentare Naomi Long in Upper Newtownards Road.
Un ordigno incendiario ha preso fuoco sulla strada ma è stato spento da una pattuglia di polizia in transito. L’altro ordigno non si è incendiato.
La polizia ritiene che un uomo con una felpa rossa con cappuccio sia coinvolto nell’attacco. È stato visto correre via in direzione di Finvoy Street.
Naomi Long ha condannato l’attacco contro l’ufficio, preso di mira ad inizio anno nel corso della disputa per le bandiere.
Sabato un uomo è stato formalmente accusato per un allarme bomba contro l’ufficio lanciato il mese scorso.
“Questo non è un attacco contro una persona o contro un ufficio, è un attacco alla democrazia”, ha affermato la parlamentare.
“Non può esserci giustificazione per questo e non c’è posto per questo genere di violenza nelle nostre strafe”.
Da quando il Consiglio comunale di Belfast ha votato per limitare il numero di giorni in cui esporre la bandiera dell’Unione dai pennoni del municipio, ci sono stati attacchi contro l’ufficio e contro abitazioni dei membri di Alliance Party.
Il consigliere dell’UUP Jim Rodgers ha affermato: “Nessuno ha il diritto di infrangere la legge ed è tempo che chi agisce in questo modo si fermi immediatamente.
“Tutti noi stiamo cercando di andare avanti, senza guardare alla religione, colore, classe o credo e questo non avverrà fino a quando la gente non inizierà a realizzare che, con questi atti, provocano maggiore divisione”.
Gli investigatori chiedono aiuto ad eventuali testimoni.

LOYALIST PETROL BOMB ATTACK ON ALLIANCE OFFICE IN EAST BELFAST
DETECTIVES have launched an investigation after a petrol bomb attack at the Alliance Party office in east Belfast.
Police say two petrol bombs were thrown at offices of Naomi Long MP on the Upper Newtownards Road around 10.45 pm on Saturday night.
One of the petrol bombs caught light on the street however it was put out by a passing police patrol. The other device did not catch light.
The PSNI believe a man wearing a red hooded top was involved in the incident. He was seen running off towards the direction of Finvoy Street.
Naomi Long condemned the attack. Her office had been targeted by loyalist protestors earlier this year.
And on Saturday, a man was charged over a hoax pipe bomb alert at the offices last month.
“This is not an attack on an individual party or office, it is an attack on democracy,” she said.
“There can be no justification for this and there is no place for this kind of violence on our streets.”
There have been a number of previous attacks on the building and the homes of Alliance Party members since a Belfast City Council vote on the flying of the union flag at city hall at the start of December last year.
UUP party councillor Jim Rodgers said: “No-one has the right to break the law and it’s time that the people who are behaving in this way stop forthwith.
“We all want to try and move forward regardless of religion, colour, class or creed and that’s not going to happen unless people start to wise up and realise that they’re only causing more division.”
