La polizia sta lavorando per rimuovere quello che è stato definito un “murales di reclutamento dell’UDA” a Carrickfergus, Contea di Antrim
Il murales, presente nella zona di Glenfield, rappresenta un uomo armato a volto coperto con le parole “Meglio morire in piedi che vivere in ginocchio in una Repubblica irlandese. Entra nell’UDA”.
Ci sono state chiamate alla PSNI per chiederne la rimozione.
In una dichiarazione il comandante Stephen Reid ha affermato: “La polizia è stata messa a conoscenza della comparsa di un nuovo murales nella zona di Glenfield.
“Gli agenti di zona stanno svolgendo indagini per determinare chi sia il proprietario dell’edificio sui cui è stato dipinto il murales, con l’intenzione di avviare un’investigazione.
“Stiamo lavorando insieme alle autorità locali per far rimuovere il murales”.
Il parlamentare Stewart Dickson, di Alliance Party, ha descritto il dipinto come “un murales di reclutamento dell’UDA” e si dice esterrefatto per la sua comparsa.
Ha continuato il politico: “È un’immagine illegale per un’organizzazione terroristica illegale. Questo murales vuol creare paura e intimidazione nella nostra comunità, oltre che a servire per demarcazione del territorio.
“Non c’è posto qui per le immagini di uomini armati a volto coperto. Questo murales invia un messaggio sbagliato ai nostri figli. Queste organizzazioni terroristiche stanno distruggendo le vite delle persone.
“Non c’è posto per loro nella nostra società.
“Mentre nelle altre aree si stanno sviluppando progetti per sostituire questo genere di immagini, è sconcertante vedere la sua comparsa. Contatterò la polizia e le agenzie locali per lavorare alla sua rimozione”.

Calls to remove ‘UDA recruitment mural’
Police have said they are working to remove what has been described as a “UDA recruitment mural” in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.
The painting, in the Glenfield area, features a masked gunman and the words: “Better to die on your feet than live on your knees in an Irish Republic. Join the UDA”.
There have been calls for its removal.
In a statement, PSNI Commander T/Supt Stephen Reid said: “Police were made aware of a fresh mural in the Glenfield area.
“Local officers are making enquiries to determine the owner of the building on which the mural has been placed with a view to launching an investigation.
“We will also be working with the local authorities to progress the removal of the mural”.
Local MLA Stewart Dickson, of Alliance, described it as a “recruitment mural for the UDA” and said he is disappointed it has appeared.
He continued: “It is an illegal image for an illegal terrorist organisation. This mural is about creating fear and intimidation within the local community, as well as attempting to demarcate territory.
“There is no place for images of masked gunmen on our streets. It is sending out the wrong message to our children. These terrorist organisations are just about destroying people’s lives.
“They have no place in our society.
“When other areas are embracing re-imaging projects, it is disappointing that this mural has appeared. I will be in contact with the Police and local agencies to work to have it removed.”
