Il ventunenne repubblicano, legato al 32 County Sovereignty Movement, si è dichiarato colpevole per il possesso di armi ed esplosivi, ritrovati a Derry nell’aprile 2013
Nathan Hastings, di Strathfoyle a 8 km da Derry, era stato arrestato ad aprile dello scorso anno in Northland Road dopo il blocco di due autovetture da parte della polizia.
Gli agenti della PSNI trovarono una pipe bomb, una pistola, munizioni e due pistole a salve modificate nella Citroen Zara guidata da Nathan Hastings.
L’autista della seconda vettura fermata, un cinquaquattrenne di Derry, era stato arrestato ma in seguito rilasciato incondizionatamente.
Nathan Hastings doveva andare in aula oggi a Belfast per rispondere delle accuse di possesso di armi da fuoco, imitazioni di armi da fuoco, munizioni ed esplosivi.
Tuttavia prima che il processo fosse iniziato Hastings si è dichiarato colpevole dopo aver chiesto che fossero ripresentate le accuse contro di lui.
In una precedente udienza era stato specificato che l’operazione di sicurezza era stata “guidata da informazioni di intelligence”.
Nathan Hastings è stato rimandato in custodia e comparirà in tribunale a Belfast il prossimo 27 giugno per la sentenza.

DERRY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO GUNS AND EXPLOSIVE CHARGES
A 21-year-old Derry man is awaiting sentencing after admitting having guns and explosives in the city last year.
Nathan Hastings, of Stradowen Drive in Strathfoyle, was arrested after police stopped two cars on Northland Road in April.
Police officers found a pipe bomb, a pistol, ammunition and two modified blank-firing handguns in one of the car, a Citroen Zara, being driven by Hastings.
The driver of the second car, a 54-year-old local man, was also arrested but later released unconditionally.
Hastings, a telecommunications worker from Stradowen Drive in Strathfoyle, was due to go on trial at Belfast Crown Court today charged with possession of firearms, imitation firearms, ammunition and explosives.
However, before the hearing got underway, he pleaded guilty after asking for the charges to be put to him again.
An earlier court hearing was told that the security operation had been “intelligence-led”.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Belfast Crown Court on 27 June for sentencing.
