La casa dell’allenatore del Celtic Glasgow Neil Lennon è stata sorvegliata per 24 ore ed è stato accompagnato agli allenamenti da un agente, dopo il rinvenimento di un pacco sospetto a lui indirizzato
L’oggetto, intercettato venerdì nell’ufficio di smistamento di Saltcoats, si è rivelato una bufala, conferma il Celtic.
Il direttore esecutivo del Celtic, Peter Lawwell, ha detto: “Chiaramente, è l’evento più recente nauseante di una lunga serie di minacce contro Neil e la sua famiglia, ed è estremamente preoccupante.
“Questo dimostra l’intensità e la pressione che Neil sopporta come allenatore del Celtic.
“Tuttavia, ha affrontato incredibilmente bene questi temi durante il suo breve periodo come allenatore, mostrando quale carattere forte possiede.
“Infatti, è estremamente triste che Neil abbia dovuto fare i conti con questo tipo di problemi per oltre un decennio, sia come giocatore del Celtic che come allenatore.
“Nessuno, in ogni ambito della vita dovrebbe vivere la propria vita in questo modo ed i responsabili devono essere condannati.
“E’ ovvio che Neil e la sua famiglia continueranno a ricevere tutto il sostegno da parte del club.
“Sappiamo che Neil avrà anche il pieno appoggio di tutti i nostri tifosi, come già successo mercoledì sera.
“Anche se questi eventi sono molto preoccupanti, chiediamo i tifosi continuino a sostenere il Celtic in questo modo positivo.
“Mentre le autorità e gli altri commentatori hanno assunto un grande interesse per gli eventi calcistici più recenti, ci auguriamo che diano attenzione e condannino anche tali azioni”.
L’allenatore del Celtic si è scontrato con l’assistente allenatore dei Rangers Ally McCoist alla fine della partita vinta dai biancoverdi. Nel corso della partita tre giocatori dei Rangers sono stati espulsi.
Lennon ha chiesto scusa alla dirigenza del Celtic dopo l’incidente.
All’inizio di quest’anno, un caricatore di proiettili indirizzata a Lennon è stato intercettato in Irlanda del Nord.

Lennon security increased after hoax
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been given 24-hour surveillance at his home and was accompanied to training by a security officer after a suspicious package addressed to him was intercepted at a Royal Mail sorting office.
The item, which was intercepted at a sorting office in Saltcoats on Friday, turned out to be a hoax, Celtic confirmed.
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said: “Clearly, this most recent sickening event in a long line of threats to Neil and his family is extremely worrying.
“This demonstrates the intensity and pressure which Neil endures as the Celtic manager.
“However, he has coped with these issues incredibly well during his short time as manager, showing what a strong character he is.
“Indeed, it is extremely sad that Neil has had to contend with such issues for more than a decade, both as a Celtic player and manager.
“No-one in any walk of life should have to live their life in this way and those responsible should be condemned.
“It goes without saying Neil and his family will continue to receive every support from the club.
“We know Neil will also have the full backing of all our fans as he and the club did on Wednesday evening.
“While these events are very concerning, we would ask that they continue to back the club in this positive Celtic manner.
“While the authorities and other commentators have taken a close interest in recent football events, we would hope they would give similar attention to also condemning such actions.”
The Celtic boss clashed with Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist at the end of the 1-0 home win, which saw three Rangers players red-carded.
Lennon has apologised to the Celtic board after the incident.
Earlier this year, a package of bullets addressed to the Lurgan man was intercepted in Northern Ireland.
