La A1 tra Cloghogue e Jonesborough è stata chiusa mercoledì, quando l’esercito ha eseguito delle esplosioni controllate.
La polizia parla di numerosi oggetti portati via dal camion per ulteriori analisi.
In un comunicato, il comandante di polizia per Newry e Mourne, l’Ispettore Capo Sam Cordner, ha affermato che gli oggetti sono ancora sotto accurato esame “ma possiamo confermare a questo punto che non era una bomba”.
“Non era un ordigno in grado di esplodere.
“Comunque riteniamo che gli oggetti trovati erano componenti potenzialmente utilizzabili nella costruzione di una bomba”, ha proseguito.
Mercoledì una squadra di artificieri dell’esercito britannico venne inviata ad esaminare un veicolo parcheggiato sotto un cavalcavia sulla A1 vicino a Newry.
La polizia ha lodato la popolazione per la pazienza avuta durante l’allarme.

Van had ‘bomb-making components’
The police have said they believe items recovered from a van which caused a security alert near the border could have been used in bomb making.
The A1 between Cloghogue and Jonesborough was closed on Wednesday while the army carried out controlled explosions.
The police said a number of items were removed for further examination.
In a statement, Newry and Mourne police commander, Chief Inspector Sam Cordner said the items were currently being examined “but we can confirm at this stage that this was not a bomb”.
“This was not a viable device.
“However, we believe that the items were components which had the potential to be used in the making of a bomb,” he said.
On Wednesday, an Army bomb disposal team was sent to examine a vehicle parked under a bridge on the A1 near Newry.
Police praised local people for their patience during the alert. They have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
