Nessun riscontro di sms inviato da polizia a lealisti

La polizia ha riferito di “non avere prove” a sostegno dell’accusa secondo la quale un agente avrebbe inviato un messaggio sul cellulare dei lealisti poco prima della morte di Kevin McDaid, incoraggiandoli a far qualcosa contro i cattolici che avevano issato i tricolori irlandesi.

Il Sunday World ha affermato che un uomo dell’UDA gli avrebbe riferito di un sms inviato da un agente ad un lealista contenente il testo: “I tricolori sono ancora alti in città – siete veri uomini oppure no?”

Si ritiene che il gruppo di lealisti responsabili della morte di McDaid e di aver lasciato il suo vicino, Damien Fleming, a lottare con la morte, sarebbero entrati nell’area per tirare giù alcune bandiere che erano state innalzate.

Comunque, una portavoce della PSNI ha affermato che il giornale “non è stato in grado di confermare alla polizia l’esistenza di tale sms”.

Secondo la portavoce gli agenti sono venuti a conoscenza delle accuse lo scorso sabato ed hanno parlato con il Sunday World su quel rapporto. La PSNI, conclude la donna, starebbe trattando tali accuse con la massima serietà.

‘No evidence’ of officer’s text to mob murder loyalists

Police have said “no evidence” has been produced to support a allegations that a PSNI officer sent a text to loyalists shortly before Kevin McDaid was killed encouraging them to take action against Catholics who had put up tricolours.

The Sunday World newspaper claimed that a senior UDA man told them that a police officer sent a text to one of the loyalists saying: “The Tricolours are still up in the town — are yis real men or what?”

It is understood that the loyalist mob murdered Mr McDaid and left his neighbour Damien Fleming fighting for his life after entering the area to rip down a number of flags that had been erected.

However, a PSNI spokeswoman said that the newspaper has “not been able to provide the PSNI with any information to confirm such a text exists”.

She added that officers were made aware of these allegations on Saturday and have spoken with the Sunday World regarding the report. The spokeswoman added that the PSNI treats such allegations with the utmost seriousness.
