L’Alta Corte dell’Irlanda del Nord ha respinto i ricorsi proposti da due repubblicani ritenuti responsabili per le lesioni e le morti subite durante la bomba di Omagh.
Colm Murphy e Seamus Daly non sono riusciti a convincere la Corte d’Appello che il giudice della causa civile originale era in errore nel trovarli colpevoli.
I parenti delle vittime dell’attacco del 1998 compiuto dalla Real IRA – che ha provocato 29 vittime – hanno ottenuto una importante vittoria legale nella causa civile che avevano intentato.
Si legge in un comunicato dell’Ufficio Comunicazioni Giudiziarie: “La Corte d’Appello ha rilevato che né Murphy né Daly ci hanno convinto che il giudice del processo era in errore nel ritenere che i ricorrenti (le vittime Omagh) avevano fornito i requisiti standard per il loro caso e di conseguenza i loro ricorsi sono stati respinti”.
La bomba di Omagh esplose in una strada trafficata dello shopping nella città della Contea di Tyrone. Uccise e ferì decine di passanti innocenti.
La Real IRA, un gruppo repubblicano contrario al processo di pace, è stata accusata per la bomba ma nessuno è stato condannato per omicidio in un tribunale penale in Irlanda del Nord.

Appeal by Omagh bomb two is dismissed
Northern Ireland’s highest court has dismissed appeals brought by two republicans found liable for injuries and deaths sustained during the Omagh bomb.
Colin Murphy and Seamus Daly failed to persuade the Court of Appeal that the judge in the original civil case was in error in finding against them.
Relatives of the victims of the 1998 Real IRA attack – which killed 29 people including a mother pregnant with twins – won a landmark legal victory which was today upheld.
A statement from the Judicial Communications Office said: “The Court of Appeal found that neither Murphy nor Daly had persuaded it that the trial judge was in error in concluding that the plaintiffs (the Omagh victims) had proved their case to the requisite standard and accordingly dismissed their appeals.”
The Omagh bomb was one of the worst atrocities of the 30-year conflict. It exploded on a busy shopping street in the Co Tyrone market town and killed and injured dozens of innocent bystanders.
The Real IRA, a dissident republican group opposed to the peace process, was blamed but nobody has been convicted of murder in a criminal court in Northern Ireland.
