Niente esercito in South Armagh

Un ufficiale di polizia in South Armagh ha respinto le voci che vorrebbero un nuovo dispiegamento di soldati nella zona

I commenti dell’ispettore capo Sam Cordner giungono durante un incontro del District Policing Partnership avvenuto a Crossmaglen martedì sera.

Circa 200 persone sono intervenute all’incontro e per oltre due ore si è discusso di vari argomenti.

Cordner ha ribadito di essere fiducioso sul reperimento di risorse atte a contrastare la minaccia repubblicana, dopo la dimostrazione di forza della Real IRA avvenuta a Meigh lo scorso mese.

Ha affermato: “Non c’è alcun senso per la reintroduzione dei militari, smplicemente non è all’ordine del giorno. Newry, Mourne ed il South Armagh saranno controllate dalla PSNI, fine della storia.

“Il livello di risorse disponibili nel distretto sono quelle necessarie per ciò che stiamo cercando di ottenere”.

‘No re-introduction’ of Army in south Armagh

A senior policeman in south Armagh has rejected claims the Army will be redeployed in the area.

Chief Inspector Sam Cordner’s comments came during a district policing board meeting in Crossmaglen on Tuesday night.

Around 200 people turned out for the meeting and spent more than two hours discussing a range of issues.

Chief Inspector Sam Cordner insisted he is confident that the resources are available to deal with the dissident threat, following a show of strength by the Real IRA in the border town of Meigh last month.

He said: “There is no sense or suggestion that there will be any re-introduction of military, that’s just not on the agenda. Newry and Mourne and South Armagh will be policed by the PSNI, end of story.”

“The level of resourcing we have available in the district is fit for purpose for what we are trying to achieve.”
