Nominato nuovo membro della Parades Commission

E’ stato nominato un nuovo membro della Commissione Parate

Michael Doherty, un addestrato mediatore, in precedenza aveva lavorato come direttore della Stairway Transformation e del Peace and Reconciliation Group.

Il posto occupato oggi da Doherty si era liberato per il rifiuto di Anne Monaghan di compiere un nuovo mandato.

Doherty prenderà posto nella Commissione a partire dal 1° aprile. Come per tutti gli altri componenti, il posto resterà occupato fino al 31 dicembre 2010.

Il Segretario di Stato Shaun Woodward ha annunciato martedì la nomina.

“La Parades Commission (Commissione Parate) gioca un importante ruolo nella nostra società e l’esperienza di Doherty sarà un’aggiunta ben accetta nell’organizzazione”, ha affermato.

“Sono fiducioso per l’importante contributo che Doherty potrà portare al lavoro del team.

“La Commissione Parate continua il suo importante lavoro e resta l’ultimo arbitro sulle questione delle parate fino a quando non verrà approvata una nuova legislazione sulle parate.

“Incoraggio tutte le comunità in Irlanda del Nord di lavorare con la commissione”, conclude Woodward.

Occupare il posto di commissario nella Parades Comission comporta una media di due giorni di lavoro settimanali, con la possibilità di incontri serali o nel fine settimana.

La scadenza del mandato è il 31 dicembre 2010 e i commissari intascano 20.182 sterline annue.

New parades member is appointed

A new member of the Parades Commission has been appointed.

Mr Michael Doherty, a trained mediator, previously worked as director of Stairway Transformation and director of the Peace and Reconciliation Group.

The vacancy was created after Anne Monaghan declined reappointment at the end of 2009.

Mr Doherty’s appointment takes effect on 1 April. As with the other commissioners, the post will run until 31 December 2010.

Secretary of State Shaun Woodward MP made the announcement on Tuesday.

“The Parades Commission plays an important role in our society and Mr Doherty’s experience and perspective will be a welcome addition to the organisation,” he said.

“I am confident that Mr Doherty will make a valuable contribution to the work of the team.

“The Parades Commission continues its important work and remains the final arbiter in parades matters until such time as new parading legislation comes into force.

“I encourage all communities in Northern Ireland to engage with the commission.”

The post entails an average of two days a week of work with the possibility of evening and weekend meetings.

The term will last until 31 December 2010 and a remuneration of £20,182 per annum is paid.
