Non cambiano i componenti della Parades Commission

Il Segretario di Stato ha annunciato l’intenzione di rinominare gli attuali commissari per un altro anno

Ringraziando gli attuali commissari, Shaun Woodward ha detto che dovrebbero restare in carica fino a quando non ci sarà un accordo politico per un’alternativa.

Lord Ashdown guida la Strategic Review of Parading, che lo scorso anno ha pubblicato delle proposte temporanee per gestire in futuro le parate contenziose.

Era stata creata in seguito all’Accordo di St. Andrews.

Non ha ancora fornito il rapporto finale al governo.

Il DUP ha insistito che la questione delle parate deve essere risolta prima del trasferimento dei poteri di giustizia e polizia. Lo Sinn Fein, invece, afferma che non devono essere collegamenti tra le due questioni.

In assenza di un accordo politico, Woodward riferisce che il lavoro dell’attuale commissione prosegue.

“Il governo mantiene l’impegno di lavorare con i partiti per cercare un metodo di gestire le parate contenziose e assicurare che le indicazioni fornite siano appropriate nelle attuali circostanze”, ha affermato Woodward.

“Il governo è pronto a implementare cambiamenti agli accordi, compresa qualsiasi legge necessaria, quando i partiti facciano un passo avanti di comune accordo.

“Fino ad allora, la Parades Commission (Commissione Parate) resterà al suo posto”.

Parades commissioners re-appointed

The secretary of state has announced his intention to re-appoint the current parades commissioners for another year.

Praising the current commissioners, Shaun Woodward said that they would remain in place until there was political agreement on an alternative.

Lord Ashdown heads the Strategic Review of Parading which last year published interim proposals for dealing with contentious parades in future.

It was set up following the St Andrews Agreement.

It has not yet delivered its final report to the government.

The DUP has stressed that the issue of parading must be resolved before policing and justice powers can be resolved. Sinn Fein, however, has said there should be no link between the two issues.

In the absence of political agreement, Mr Woodward said the work of the current commission would continue.

“The government remains committed to working with the parties to find a way of dealing with contentious parades and to ensure that oversight arrangements are appropriate to current circumstances,” Mr Woodward said.

“The government is ready to implement changes to arrangements, including any necessary legislation, where the parties mutually agree a way forward.

“Until then the Parades Commission will remain in place.”
