Poco dopo aver iniziato l’azione di protesta la squadra anti sommossa è entrata nelle loro celle e li ha aggredito, prima di spostare fiscamente i prigionieri. I POW sono stati trascinati fuori dalle celle lungo i corridoi.
Tre pigionieri, John Paul Wootton, Mark McGuigan e Gerard McManus, sono stati denudati dalla squadra anti sommossa e trascinati nelle loro celle – attraverso i cocci dei lavelli infranti -, prima di essere fatti strisciare lungo il corridoio. Come risultato di tale azione, sono rimasti tutti feriti.
I prigionieri sono quindi stati separati dagli altri POW che non protestano, ed ora si trovano in una differente ala del carcere. Le loro celle sono state spogliate degli arredi e ai prigionieri non sono stati consegnati indumenti asciutti. Il sistema di fognatura adesso è danneggiato e ciò implica che, quando gli altri prigionieri scaricano acqua nei gabinetti, tutto il liquame finisce nelle loro celle.
Da venerdì sera i prigionieri in protesta sono stati rinchiusi in cella in base alla Regola 7, e non possono avere contatti con le proprie famiglia. Domenica alla famiglia di Gerard McManus è stato impedito di fargli visita.
In seguito ai prigionieri è stato comunicato il ritiro delle restrizioni dovute alla Regola 7 e gli è stato permesso di fare una telefonata della durata di 5 minuti.
PROTEST ACTION HAS COMMENCED
Shortly after they began protest action the riot squad entered their cells and attacked them before physically removing the prisoners. The prisoners were trailed out of their cells and along the landing.
3 prisoners, John Paul Wottoon, Mark McGuigan and Gerard McManus were stripped naked by the riot squad and then trailed around their cells (through the debris of the broken sink and toilet etc) before being trailed along the landing. They have received injuries as a result.
The prisoners were then separated from the other prisoners not on protest, and are now on a different landing. Their cells have been stripped bare and they have no access to dry clothing. The sewage system is now faulty which means that when the other prisoners flush their toilets all the toilet waste is now flooding into their cells.
Since Friday night the prisoners on protest have been locked up under rule 7, and have not been able to make contact with their families. Gerard Mc Manus’ family were refused their family visit yesterday (Sunday).
Today the prisoners were informed that rule 7 had been lifted and that they would all be allocated 5mins to make a phone call.
