La compagna dell’uomo ucciso dalla Real IRA ha inviato messaggi agli anonimi incendiari
Mairéad Miller stava parlando durante la protesta presso il Free Derry Wall, sabato, dopo che un piccolo murales in ricordo di Kieran era stato incendiato da molotov lanciate da uomini a volto coperto.
Kieran è stato colpito alla testa nel febbraio di quest’anno dalla Real Ira, secondo cui l’uomo spacciava stupefacenti. La Millar, che ieri sarebbe dovuta camminare lungo la navata con l’uomo che amava, ha insistito che non era un trafficante di droga. Crede che Kieran sia stato usato come capro espiatorio. “Se fosse stato uno spacciatore di droga”, ha detto, “con un grande se, lo è stato solo a seguito di ordini provenienti dalla loro organizzazione. E’ stato colpito per coprire più di un membro di valore più alto. E’ stata una copertura. Era un capro espiatorio”.
Mairéad Millar, che ha compiuto 30 anni ieri, ha detto che l’attacco contro il memoriale era stato previsto. “Mi aspetto i modi infantili con cui agiscono” ha detto. “Dio aiuti l’Irlanda se conta su queste persone per salvarla. Si dimostra che sono i criminali di cui ho riferito ieri. Dimostra quel punto, quindi non mi preoccupo. Ora so ciò che sono giunta a loro. Devo avere ragione se hanno fatto questo”.
Ha tenuto una protesta silenziosa, circondata da parenti, mentre i repubblicani del 32CSM hanno organizzato un picchetto (white line picket – picchetto sulla linea di mezzeria della strada, Ndt) a pochi metri di distanza per protestare contro le condizioni dei repubblicani nel carcere Maghaberry. La Miller ha detto che non si sarebbe fatta intimidire da nessuno.
“Sanno che Kieran è stato colpito per coprire per un membro di grado superiore, non per le droghe, e vado a dimostrare il contrario”.
“Ora so che sono giunta a loro, ho intenzione di continuare a stargli dietro. Questo Muro (il Free Derry Wall, Ndt) è stato qui in tutti il Troubles e non è mai stato toccato. E’ il muro della gente, eppure la gente che lo ha attaccato si definisce repubblicana. Stanno cercando di negare la mia libertà di parola. Dimostra solo che non sono altro che una banda criminale”.
Mairéad ha detto nei giorni scorsi era stato un “incubo”, ma che doveva essere forte per la figlia della coppia, di due anni e mezzo, Ceadach. Parlando ieri, ha detto: “Mi sono emozionata questa mattina a pensare che cosa avrei fatto. Sarebbe stato un giorno bellissimo per il nostro matrimonio. Tutto è stato organizzato. Saremmo andati a fare le nostre foto a Termonbacca, invece mi sto recando sulla sua tomba.
“Sto cercando di nascondere tutto. Ma Ceadach è grande, tutto quello che fa mi ricorda Kieran”.
Parlando di coloro che hanno bruciato il memoriale, ha aggiunto: “Hanno fatto di me una persona più forte. So che Kieran non era un trafficante di droga. Ho vissuto con lui per 14 anni so com’era. Kieran mi ha dato la forza di andare avanti. Nel mio cuore so che non era un trafficante di droga.
“Lui non si sarebbe messo in quella posizione prima di sposarsi e con una bambina”.
La polizia sta indagando sull’incidente al Free Derry Wall nella notte di venerdì e stanno analizzando l’attacco incendiario.

Fiancee of Real IRA murder victim sends message to masked arsonists
Mairéad Miller was speaking at a protest at the Free Derry Wall on Saturday after a memorial to Kieran was torched by armed masked men with petrols bombs on Friday night.
Kieran was shot in the head in February this year by the Real IRA who claimed he was dealing in drugs. Ms Millar, who was due to walk down the aisle with the man she loved yesterday, insisted he was not a drug dealer. She believes Kieran was used as a scapegoat. “If he was a drug dealer,” she said, “a big if, he was only following orders from their organisation. He was shot to cover a more higher ranking member himself. It was a cover up. He was a scapegoat.”
Ms Millar, who turned 30 yesterday, said the attack on the memorial was expected. “I now expect the childish ways they act,” she said. “God help Ireland if they are counting on these people to save it.
“It just shows they are the criminals that I said they were yesterday. It proves a point, so it didn’t bother me. Now I know I have gotten to them. I must have if they did that.”
She held her silent protest, surrounded by relatives, as hardline republicans from the 32CSM staged a white line picket just yards away in protest at the conditions for dissident republicans in Maghaberry prison. Ms Millar said she would not be intimidated by anyone.
“They know that Kieran was shot to cover for a higher member, not for drugs, and I am going to prove them wrong.”
“Now I know that I have got to them, I’m going to keep on getting at them. This Wall was here all through the Troubles and was not touched. It is the people’s wall and yet the people that attacked it call themselves republicans. They are trying to deny my freedom of speech. It just shows that they are nothing more than a criminal gang.”
Mairéad said the past few days had been a “nightmare”, but that she had to be strong for the couple’s two-and a-half-year-old daughter, Ceadach. Speaking yesterday, she said: “I am emotional this morning thinking what I should have been doing. It would have been a beautiful day for our wedding. Everything was organised. We were to take our photos at Termonbacca, instead I am going to his grave.
“I am trying to hide everything. But Ceadach is great, everything she does reminds me of Kieran.”
Speaking of those that burned the memorial, she added: “They have made me a stronger person. I know Kieran was not a drug dealer. I lived with him for 14 years I know what he was like. Kieran has given me the strength to go on. I know in my heart he was no drug dealer.
“He would not have put himself in that position when he was getting married and with the baby.”
Police are investigating the incident at the Free Derry Wall on Friday night and are treating the attack as arson.
They have asked anyone with information to contact them.
