La figlia maggiore di Jean McConville ha promesso di fare i nomi degli assassini di sua madre.
Helen McKendry, che insieme con i suoi nove fratelli ha assistito al rapimento di sua madre da parte dell’IRA, ha detto di non avere più paura .
“Ho passato i primi 20 anni della mia vita con la paura di queste persone, temendo di parlare, ma ora non ho più paura”, ha detto al Guardian.
“Se la piena cooperazione sull’omicidio di mia madre comprende fare i nomi di quelli che ho visto entrare nel nostro appartamento, che hanno trascinato mia madre lontano da noi armi in pugno, e che sono stati direttamente coinvolti nella sua scomparsa e nell’omicidio, allora sì, sarei pronta a fare nomi.
“Per me questo non è fare l’informatrice, ma fare il mio dovere nei confronti di mia madre”.
Seamus, il marito di Helen, si è scagliato contro le affermazioni del vice primo ministro Martin McGuinness che ha parlato di una cospirazione voluta dalla polizia contro lo Sinn Féin. “Totalmente assurdo e un profondo insulto alla famiglia e a tutta la comunità”, ha detto il marito della donna.
“Questa è la stessa PSNI per la quale Martin McGuinness ha chiesto a tutti, compresi i suoi stessi sostenitori, di sostenere quando è stata restaurata la devolution“, ha detto.
“Non può avere entrambe le cose. Questo è solo tipico tentativo di deviare l’attenzione dalla vera storia che sta dietro a tutto questo, per distogliere l’attenzione dal terribile crimine inflitto a Jean”.
Nel frattempo Michael, fratello di Helen, ha detto che l’omicidio e la sepoltura segreta della loro madre vanno trattati come crimini di guerra e svolti presso il Tribunale Criminale Internazionale.
“Queste persone dovrebbero essere portati al tribunale dell’Aja per crimini di guerra perché si tratta proprio di questo”, ha detto.
“Questo è avvenuto sia dopo la Seconda Guerra Mondiale che in Bosnia – le persone che avevano trascinato la gente nei boschi e le aveva uccise e sepolte in segreto sono state accusate di crimini di guerra”.
Rispondendo alle affermazioni dello Sinn Féin secondo cui l’arresto di Gerry Adams non ha avuto molto impatto sull’elettorato della Repubblica, Michal McConville ha affermato: “Io penso che dovrebbe aver acceso un po’ di interesse nel Sud.
“Penso che dovrebbe portare un po’ di pressione.
“Ma credo che il Sud sia stufo del conflitto nordirlandese”.

The eldest daughter of Jean McConville has vowed to name her mother’s killers.
Helen McKendry, who along with her nine siblings watched their mother dragged away screaming by the IRA, said she is no longer afraid.
“I spent the first 20 years of my life being afraid of these people, of fearing to speak out, but now I am no longer afraid,” she told the Guardian.
“If full cooperation into the murder of my mother includes naming those who I saw bursting into our flat, who dragged my mother away from us at gunpoint, and who were directly involved in her disappearance and murder, then yes, I would be prepared to name names.
“To me that is not informing but doing my duty to my mother.”
Helen’s husband Seamus also slammed Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness’s claims of a police conspiracy against Sinn Fein as “totally absurd and a deep insult to the family and the wider community’s intelligence”.
“This is the same PSNI which Martin McGuinness asked everyone, including his own supporters, to endorse when devolution was restored,” he said.
“He can’t have it both ways. This is just typical spin to deflect from the real story behind all of this, to deflect from the terrible crime inflicted on Jean.”
Meanwhile, Helen’s brother Michael said the murder and secret burial of their mother meant any trial should be treated as a war crime and held in the International Criminal Court.
“These people should be brought to court in The Hague for war crimes because that’s what this is,” he said.
“This happened in the Second World War and Bosnia – the people who took people out into the woods and shot them and secretly burying them were brought up for war crimes.”
Responding to claims by Sinn Fein that the arrest of Mr Adams has not made much impact on the electorate in the Republic, Mr McConville said: “I thought it would have sparked a lot of interest down South.
“I would have thought it would have brought a lot of pressure.
“But I think the South is probably fed up of all the Troubles up here.”
