North Belfast: nuovo allarme in Antrim Road, nessun ordigno trovato
Second hoax alert in north Belfast
Army bomb experts have attended the scene of a second hoax security alert in north Belfast.
A road closure was put in place on the Antrim Road between Willowbank Gardens and Hopefield Avenue on Wednesday evening, following the discovery of a small suspicious object.
A number of people in surrounding properties were evacuated for a time. They have now been allowed home.
Police have described the incident as a “deliberate crude hoax”.
Earlier on Wednesday, a major security alert in the Oldpark area was also declared a deliberate hoax.
A man was arrested after the bomb scare led to the overnight evacuation of up to 20 homes on Tuesday night.
The army bomb squad and police searched the Oldpark Road area after the Samaritans received a phone call claiming a device had been abandoned.
Two controlled explosions were carried out. No device was found.
