Sei di loro sono accusati per omicidio e tentato omicidio, due per tentato omicidio e uno per rissa.
Gli uomini sono stati rimandati in custodia davanti al tribunale di Ballymena giovedì. Tutti negano le accuse.
Durante le udienze un cordone di 17 poliziotti armati in assetto anti sommossa hanno circondato oltre 70 lealisti che occupavano le panche del pubblico.
Dall’altra parte dell’aula, altri poliziotti fornivano uno scudo umano agli amici e alla famiglia McDaid, compreso uno dei suoi figli.
L’udienza di 30 minuti si è svolta senza incidenti dopo che il giudice distrettuale Philip Mateer ha avvisato che qualunque urlo in aula avrebbe causato l’allontanamento.
Tutti gli accusati sono stati rimandati in custodia e compariranno in collegamento video davanti al tribunale di Coleraine l’8 giugno.
Gli accusati sono:
- David Craig Cochrane, 18 anni, di Windyhill Park. Accusato per la morte di McDaid e per tentato omicidio;
- David James Cochrane, suo padre, 47 anni, è accusato di rissa;
- Ivan Beattie McDowell, 42 anni, di Lisnablagh Road. Accusato di tentato omicidio;
- John Thompson, 29 anni, di Daneshill Road, è accusato di omicidio, tentato omicidio e aggressione;
- Frank Simpson Daly, 48 anni, di Rosemary Place. Accusato di omicidio, tentato omicidio e aggressione contro Evelyn McDaid e Leona Whittaker;
- Christopher McDowell, 33 anni, di Glebe Avenue, accusato di omicidio e tentato omicidio;
- Aaron Thomas Beech, 23 anni, di Windyhall Park. Accusato di tentato omicidio e aggressione;
- Paul Andrew Newman, 40 anni, di Grassmere Close. Deve rispondere di omicidio e tentato omicidio;
- John McGrath, 50 anni, di Hawthorne Place. Accusato di omicidio, tentato omicidio e aggressione nei confronti di Evelyn McDaid.

Nine charged with McDaid murder
Six were charged with murder and attempted murder, two with attempted murder and one with affray.
The men were remanded in custody at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday. They all deny the charges.
At the hearing 17 armed police in riot gear ringed over 70 loyalists who filled the public benches.
On the other side of the court, more police provided a human shield around friends and family members of Mr McDaid, including one of his four sons.
The 30-minute hearing passed without incident after District Judge Philip Mateer warned anyone shouting in court would be removed and dealt with.
All accused were remanded in custody to reappear at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court by video link on June 8.
Those accused are:
- David Craig Cochrane, 18, of Windyhill Park, charged with the murder of Mr McDaid and attempted murder.
- His father, David James Cochrane, 47, of Windyhill Park, followed him into the dock accused of causing an affray
- Ivan Beattie McDowell, 42, of Lisnablagh Road was charged with attempted murder.
