Nuove regole per parlamentari che assumono i parenti

I parlamentari di Stormont adesso devono registrare i dettagli dei membri della famiglia che assumono, in base al nuovo codice di comportamento

In base a questa politica, i parlamentari devono anche registrare i guadagni ottenuti al di fuori di Stormont.

I parlamentari hanno approvato il nuovo codice nella seduta di ieri.

E’ stato portato avanti dal Comitato Standard e Privilegi (Standards and Privileges Committee), guidato dalla parlamentare dello SDLP Carmel Hanna.

Gli emolumenti pagati alla parentela per gli uffici nei collegi elettorali sono soggetti a registrazione.

I politici di Stormont possono essere sospesi dall’Assemblea senza salario qualora infrangessero le nuove regole.

Le linee guida indicano che i membri dovrebbero essere coscienti di esprimere punti di vista controversi in materia di razza e omosessualità.

Si ritiene che Hanna e la sua squadra avessero formulato le nuove regole tempo fa, però la sua urgenza è stata superata dalle rivelazioni riguardanti le spese dei parlamentari di Westminster.

Nel 2008 i parlamentari del DUP avevano assunto 18 parenti, lo SDLP ne utilizzava 10, l’UUP si serviva di 6 parenti mentre lo Sinn Fein solamente 3.

New Rules On MLAs Employing Relatives

Stormont MLAs must now register the details of family members they employ, under a new code of conduct.

Under the policy, Assembly members must also register earnings made outside of Stormont.

MLAs approved the new code yesterday.

It had been pushed forward by the Standards and Privileges Committee, headed by the SDLP’s Carmel Hanna.

Rent paid to relatives for constituency offices will now be subject to the register.

Stormont politicians could be suspended from the Assembly without pay if they are found to have broken the new rules.

The guidelines also states that members should be conscious of expressing controversial views regarding race and homosexuality.

It is believed Ms Hanna and her team have been formulating the new policy for sometime, however, its urgency was prompted by the revelations over MPs’ expenses in Westminster.

In 2008, it was revealed 18 DUP MLAs employed family members, SDLP representatives 10, UUP members employed six relatives and among Sinn Fein MLAs it was three.
