Un nuovo documento svelato dalla vedova di un ex ufficiale della RUC mostra i dettagli secondo cui Gerry Adams era coinvolto nell’IRA a metà degli anni Novanta. La dottoressa Susan Phoenix, vedova di Ian Phoenix, un ufficiale specialista in anti-terrorismo della RUC, ha scoperto i documenti dopo la morte di suo marito in un incidente in elicottero nel 1994.
I documenti spiegano che Gerry Adams era un membro dell’IRA, insieme a Martin McGuinness e Gerry Kelly. Adams e McGuinness sono elencati come vice Capo di Stato Maggiore (Chief of Staff), mentre McGuinness viene anche dichiarato Comandante del Nord (Northern Command) della formazione armata repubblicana.
Il documento, della cui esistenza parla il Sunday Independent, afferma che anche molti dei più vicini colleghi di Gerry Adams nello Sinn Féin erano al contempo membri di alto profilo nei Provisional IRA. Fonti interne ai servizi di sicurezza della Repubblica d’Irlanda hanno dichiarato che lo schema corrisponde a quanto raccolto dall’intelligence irlandese nei primi anni Novanta.
Gerry Adams ha sempre negato di essere un membro dell’IRA e queste rivelazioni potrebbero ostacolare lui e lo Sinn Féin alle prossime elezioni generali.

New documents claim proof of Gerry Adams involvement as a senior IRA member
A secret document unearthed by the widow of a former RUC officer shows details of Gerry Adams’ involvement in the IRA in the middle of the 1990s. Dr Susan Phoenix, the widow of Ian Phoenix, who was a counter-terrorism specialist for the RUC, discovered the documents after her husband’s death in a helicopter accident in 1994.
The documents show that Adams was a senior member of the IRA, along with leading politicians such as Martin McGuinness and Gerry Kelly. Adams and McGuinness are named in the documents as joint deputy chief of staff, while McGuinness is also named as the IRA’s Northern Command.
The document, which was revealed by the Sunday Independent, claims that many of Adams’ closest colleagues in Sinn Féin were leading members of the IRA too. Senior security sources in the Republic of Ireland have stated that the chart matches up to the one which Irish intelligence forces gathered in the early 1990s.
Adams has always claimed that he was not a senior member of the IRA, and these revelations are sure to hamper his and his party’s chances in the upcoming General Election.
