Man arrested in dissident Down bomb probe

Palace Barracks | PSNIA man has been arrested as part of an investigation into the dissident republican bomb attack on a British Army barracks in Co Down just over a week ago.

The 29-year-old suspect was detained this morning in north Belfast and is being questioned by officers from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Unit at Antrim Police Station.

The Real IRA has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Palace Barracks in Holywood on 12 April.

The incident occurred just minutes after the devolution of security powers from London to Belfast.

A taxi driver was taken hostage in north Belfast and held for two hours before being forced to drive the device to the barracks.

Security personnel were evacuating the area when the device exploded.

A 30-year-old man arrested in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast over the attack last week was later released without charge.
