Oglaigh na hEireann rivendica la bomba di Derry

Oglaigh a hEireann si è presa la responsabilità per l’attacco di martedì contro la stazione di polizia di Strand Road a Derry

In un comunicato, l’organizzazione ha anche riferito di aver tentato di colpire la caserma della polizia il giorno prima dell’attacco.

Secondo Oglaigh na hEireann l’attacco non è stato effettuato perché due tassisti “si sono rifiutati di seguire le istruzioni”.

Duecento libbre (circa 90 chilogrammi) di esplosivo artigianale sono stati utilizzati nell’attacco di martedì.

Nessuno è rimasto ferito nell’attacco, avvenuto alle 3:20 di notte, ma numerosi esercizi commerciali sono rimasti gravemente danneggiati.

Steve Martin, comandante divisionale della PSNI, si è detto fortunato per non aver dovuto contare vittime perché la bomba sarebbe esplosa 20 minuti prima di quanto comunicato nell’avvertimento.

Ha anche rivelato che un agente di polizia rischiò per due volte la vita mentre si operava per portare al sicuro il personale di un vicino fast food.

La polizia ha anche affermato che le strade intorno alla stazione di polizia sarebbero rimaste chiuse fio a tutto giovedì.

Il blocco stradale all’incrocio tra Strand Road e Clarendon Street è stato spostato all’incrocio tra Strand Road e Asylum Road.

Boating Club Lane adesso è stata riaperta fino all’incrocio con Strand Road.

Resta chiusa la strada all’incrocio tra Strand Road e Lawrence Hill.

Group claims Strand Road bomb attack

An organisation calling itself Oglaigh na hEireann has claimed it was behind Tuesday’s car bomb attack on Strand Road police station in Londonderry.

In a statement, the organisation also said it had attempted to bomb the police barracks on the previous day.

It said that attack had not gone ahead after two taxi drivers “refused to cooperate with instructions”.

Two hundred pounds of homemade explosives were used in Tuesday’s car bomb attack.

No-one was injured in the attack which happened at 0320 BST, but several businesses were badly damaged.

PSNI divisional commander Steve Martin said it was fortunate no-one was killed because the device went off more than 20 minutes before a warning said it would.

He also revealed that a policeman risked his own life when he walked past the bomb twice to bring to safety staff at a nearby fast food shop.

Police said the roads around the station were likely to remained closed until Thursday.

The cordon point at Strand Road/Clarendon Street has been moved to the Strand Road/Asylum Road junction.

Boating Club Lane has now been reopened up to the junction of Strand Road.

The other point at Strand Road/Lawrence Hill remains in place.
