Una formazione paramilitare ha inviato una seria minaccia di morte contro gli spacciatori operanti ad Omagh.
Sei residenti sono stati minacciati dal gruppo, che ha inviato una dichiarazione all’Ulster Herald nella giornata di martedì.
La dichiarazione era accompagnata da una fotografia di tre uomini in passamontagna vestiti con abiti militari, posti dietro ad un tavolo su cui campeggiano un fucile, una pistola e delle munizioni.
Il gruppo ha espresso la propria volontà di usare “le maniere forti” per fermare lo spaccio di droga nella cittadina, paventando il ricorso al “knee capping (sparare sul retro del ginocchio, ndt) e alle esecuzioni, se necessario”.
Sei persone legate alla zona di Omagh hanno ricevuto la visita degli ufficiali della PSNI, che li hanno avvertiti delle minacce di morte contro di loro.
Il messaggio sinistro giunge a pochi giorni dall’ultimo decesso causato dall’uso di droga a Omagh.
Emma Doogan, 19 anni, è morta in un appartamento nella zona di Strathroy il 20 agosto dopo una presunta overdose.
La morte della giovane è la terza in 18 mesi dovuta alla droga, nello stesso complesso residenziale.
Mentre nessun gruppo paramilitare si è assunto la responsabilità per la nuova minaccia, si ritiene che provenga dai gruppi repubblicani.
Solo tre settimane fa c’è stata la morte, a Strabane, di Kevin Murray, figura chiave nel gruppo Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD), che intendeva colpire gli spacciatori di droga in North Tyrone e Derry.
L’immagine circolata questa settimana ha le stesse caratteristiche delle fotografie distribuite ai media dal RAAD durante le proprie campagne.
Nella dichiarazione inviata all’Ulster Herald, il gruppo ha detto: “Siamo un’organizzazione che sta agendo contro tutti gli spacciatori di droga. A questo punto non intendiamo svelare l’organizzazione per conto della quale stiamo agendo, ma vogliamo solo mettere fine allo spaccio nella nostra comunità.
“La droga che sta circolando distrugge le vite dei giovani ed è la rovina della nostra comunità.
“Per fermare questo, arriveremo alle estreme conseguenze, come il knee capping e le esecuzioni, se necessario”.
La minaccia è stata duramente condannata dal consigliere dello Sinn Féin di Strahroy, Marty McColgan.
“Voglio mandare le mie condoglianze alla giovane vittima e alla sua famiglia, ma le minacce come queste non sono la risposta ai gravi problemi di droga.
“Non c’è posto nella società per bande di vigilantes auto-nominati. Molte di queste bande sono state coinvolte in estorsioni ai danni degli spacciatori e in altri atti criminali”, ha affermato.
“Il sistema di giustizia è l’unico luogo in cui portare spacciatori e bande. Chiedo a chiunque abbia informazioni di farsi avanti”.
Il consigliere McColgan ha detto che i leader comunitari di Strathroy continueranno a lavorare per educare i giovani e illustrare loro i pericoli delle droghe.
“L’unico modo per sconfiggere queste cose è di restare uniti come comunità”, ha concluso il politico.

Group issues death threat to six local ‘drug dealers’
AN UNNAMED paramilitary organisation has issued a chilling threat to kill drug dealers in Omagh.
Six local men have been placed under immediate threat by the group, which issued a statement to the Ulster Herald on Tuesday.
The statement was accompanied by an image of three balaclava clad men in military fatigues photographed behind a table bearing a shotgun, handgun and ammunition.
The group has warned it is willing to go to “extreme lengths” to stop drug dealing in the local area, including resorting to “knee capping and executions if necessary”.
Six people with ties to the Omagh area have been visited by the PSNI since Tuesday to warn of the immediate threat placed against their lives.
The sinister message comes in the wake of the latest death linked to the use of drugs in Omagh.
Emma Doogan (19) died on August 20 following a suspected drug overdose at a flat in the Strathroy area of Omagh.
The death was the third linked to drugs in the same block of flats in the past 18 months.
While no paramilitary group has taken responsibility for the new threat, dissident republicans are suspected.
The warning comes less than three weeks after the death of Strabane man Kevin Murray, a leading figure in Republican Action Against Drugs, which claimed to target drug dealers in North Tyrone and Derry.
The image circulated this week bears similar characteristics to the images distributed to the media in Strabane by RAAD during the height of its campaign.
In the statement to the Herald, the group said, “We are an organisation taking action against all drug dealers. At this point we are not willing to disclose the organisation we are acting on behalf but we are taking it upon ourselves to put an end to the drug dealing within our community.
“The drugs that are in circulation are destroying young peoples lives and are the ruination of our community.
“In order to stop this we are willing to go to extreme lengths such as integrations (sic), knee capping and executions if necessary.”
The threat has been strongly condemned by Strathroy Sinn Féin councillor Marty McColgan.
“I wish to restate my sympathy for the young girl who died and her family, but threats like this aren’t the answer to serious drug problems.
“There’s no place in society for self appointed vigilante gangs. Many of these gangs have been involved in extorting drug dealers and other forms of criminality,” he said.
“The criminal justice system is the only place for drug dealers and gangs. I would urge anyone with information to bring it forward.”
Cllr McColgan said community leaders in Strathroy would continue to work to educate young people and highlight the dangers of drugs.
“The only way to defeat these things is by communities standing and working together,” he said.
